Tell us your transformation story! What inspired you to start your curl journey?
I started my curl journey back in high school. At the time I was living in Florida and having straight hair was a lot of maintenance! Eventually I became tired of how time-consuming my hair was, so I started researching how to go natural. My hair was damaged for so long I forgot what my natural curl pattern was, so I was also curious as to what it would look like.
How did you feel about your hair when you were growing up? And how do you feel about it now?
Growing up I didn’t like my hair. I didn’t know how to style it properly and as a result, I tried to relax the curl away. Now, I LOVE my hair! It makes me feel unique and confident.
Any tips for members of our community who are just starting to go natural and unsure how to start?
There’s no wrong way to start embracing your natural curl. Just go for it! It’s all about the journey and learning how to do things along the way.
What’s your favorite hair tip/trick/hack in general?
Deep conditioning once a week is actually AMAZING! Your hair will thank you! Once I committed to doing this weekly, my curls started looking more moisturized and defined.
What are your favorite DevaCurl products?
Do you change your routine with the seasons/weather? Or do you typically use the same products year-round? Why or why not?
I typically use the same styling products year-round, but I like to switch up my deep conditioners frequently. I listen to my hair and adjust based on how it feels. If I find a concoction of products that work well styling my hair, I typically don’t like to switch it up unless I feel the need to.
What’s your favorite part of being curly?
I love being curly because my hair is versatile and fun! It’s a part of my identity and who I am.
What is your full beauty routine like? Do you spend as much time on skincare/makeup as you do on your curls?
In the morning I like to wash my face and do my hair. After my hair is styled, I start on makeup. At night I like to use scrubs and masks to help detox my skin.
