When you think of all the essential tools you need to style your curls, clips, a good diffuser, and a solid hair dryer are probably what come to mind. But there’s a very important styling tool that your bathroom might be missing: the DevaTowel. We love fluffy, terrycloth towels as much as you do, but if you want gorgeous curls—don’t use them on your hair. The anti-static, microfiber DevaTowel should be your go-to for wavy, curly, and super curly hair.
There are so many reasons to love the DevaTowel
At the top of every curly or wavy girl’s wish list is fighting frizz and parched curls. The DevaTowel, created for all curlkind, helps with both. Unlike regular terrycloth towels, its smooth, microfiber texture won’t rough up your curl pattern and create frizz. The DevaTowel is also anti-static, so your curls won’t devolve into a wild halo of strands when you use it. Plus, the super-soft DevaTowel soaks up the right amount of excess water, without taking away essential moisture. Another genius element of the DevaTowel design is its size—yes, it matters. The luxurious gray towel isn’t so large that it’s difficult to work with, but it’s big enough (even if you have tons of hair). The high-quality of the DevaTowel is one more reason it gets a thumbs-up from curly girls who have already discovered this gem. It’s lint-free and fade-resistant. So you’ll love it just as much on Day 100 as Day 1. The fabric is also hypoallergenic, so you don’t have to worry about sneezing up a storm while you’re drying. Now that you’re sold on this must-have, it’s time to learn how to use it.
Exactly how to use the DevaTowel
Once you get into a groove with your DevaTowel, you’ll wonder how you ever styled your curls without it. One thing to remember before you start: “For frizz-prone curls, the wetter your hair when you apply products, the better,” says Shari Harbinger, Co-Founder of the DevaCurl Academy. Applying your gel or styling cream while your hair is wet will help you distribute the product more evenly and allow the product to absorb better. It will also help control shrinkage. Afterward, you can use the DevaTowel to remove some excess water. Here’s how: Once you’re done cleansing and conditioning, gently squeeze excess water then apply your stylers. Once you’ve finished with your products, tilt your head forward or over to one side. “Gently cup the curls in the towel beginning at the ends, and like an accordion, scrunch upward toward the crown,” says Shari. Hold for three to five seconds and release. Keep going, section by section, until you’ve scrunched your whole head. For curl elongation, squeeze or blot your hair, but don’t scrunch. Your curls should still be wet, (but not dripping) defined and ready for drying. Let your curls air-dry, use the DevaDryer and DevaFuser, or a hooded dryer. That’s it!
