rude, insulting, belittling owner/stylist

JL|May 22, 2016
Kim Wicks told me she was a certified Deva stylist. I was insulted, belittled and treated rudely by Kim. Because of this I will not return to Fontenac Salon and Spa in St Louis, MO. I have been using Deva products & the Curly Girl method and a Deva Curl Stylist for 10 years (stylist moved to Florida). I told Kim this right away. I wanted to tell her about my curls – type-cupid, spring factor, length I liked, concerns… Kim’s response; “You need to be quiet!” “You will learn something every time you come here.” I again tried to tell her not to cut it too short… response; “I don’t need you to be talking.” “You need to listen!” “Do you like my (Kim's) hair?” I said I did. “Then stop talking” Again I spoke to tell her my hair had not been colored since September… response; “I would NEVER have dyed it THAT COLOR!” I told her I was a natural strawberry blonde (I am 60) and this was faded red dye… I wanted her to know Loreal Inoa Color with Pintura highlights were used, but she interrupted me before I could finish; “I told you to be quiet and listen!” "I don't care about your color." Since I had so many orders to BE QUIET, I stopped talking. Kim proceeded to talk to her fellow employee about an outfit she (Kim) was to wear on a date, what shoes to wear, etc. while I SAT SILENT in her chair. “I am going to wash your hair” – “AND I NEVER WASH HAIR but I will wash yours.” After sitting under the dryer, returning to her chair she commented; “You need to work on your posture!” “You have terrible posture!” Results of my hair cut? Flat, dull and full of too much product, and very short, it was an okay Deva cut (I have had much better) but my hair was at least an inch shorter than I wanted because I wasn’t allowed to talk and she wouldn't let me tell her how long to leave it. Return to that salon? I think not. Okay cut or not, I don’t need to be treated with such disrespect and rudeness while getting a haircut.

I love my new look!

I have been coming to this salon for many years. Yesterday I went in and said I'm finally ready for something new. I had some ideas and Kim said "I know what you're thinking, let me do my thing." I absolutely love my new 'do'. She even took time to give me some new lessons and tips. Even though I've been doing the curly girl thing forever it was very helpful to be reminded of things I had been slacking on. Thanks Kim!!

Great Place for Curly Girls!

So nice to walk into a home-y salon; no pretentious attitudes here! Kim takes great care of my curls, but you'd be in great hands with any of the stylists. Super friendly environment and affordable! Love the online appointment scheduling, too. Do yourself a favor and try Frontenac Salon & Spa!
