I got my first Deva cut with Melody in the fall of 2015. I was SO excited to learn how to manage my curls better. I have very fine, thin hair, and the curl falls out very easily. The only instruction I got before the appointment was not to use product. My hair doesn't curl unless I style it, so the "natural" hair I walked in with was fuzzy and limp with very little curl. She cut it that way in random sections, no attention to individual curls that's supposed to be a key feature of the Deva cut. I told her I do wear it straight sometimes and that my curls have highly variable moods and that I didn't want it cut longer on one side than the other which would look bad when my curls changed. She did anyway, a solid inch and a half shorter right at my face on one side than the other. It NEVER matched after the day of my cut. They tossed me back and forth between people - an intern for washing, Melody for the cut, a third person for styling, then back to Melody. No quality time, no personal attention. It felt like an assembly line in a factory. The only good thing about the whole experience was the initial training with noodling, which helps my hair form defined curls instead of fuzz. They put huge clips in my hair at the roots which lifted the curls but put huge crimps in my hair that left glaring patches of exposed scalp. They also noodled my hair into very thick curls clumps, which allowed for very few curls and emphasized how thin my hair is. Maybe Melody is great with other types of curls, but it was an absolute waste of time and money for me. When I spoke with the salon owner about my less than ideal experience, her response was "Not everyone likes a Deva set."
