Jody is amazing. She spends time and her talent to enhance the curls and waves I have to create the perfect look for me and my silver-strands. And... she cares. That means a lot to me.

I wish there was a way to give Jody 6 stars!

She took my hair which had been nothing but “fluffy” and shaped it into something beautiful and free with defined curls. All the while she spent a LOT of time teaching me how to do it myself. I’ve had one curly haircut before but could never replicate the finished hair, so I thought I was going out on a limb to try again with Jody. Couldn’t have been more wrong. I’m still getting compliments on my hair and I’ve washed it twice. A little more practice and I’ll have it just right. If you’re a little concerned about a dry curly cut like I was, Jody is the one who can give you a fabulous cut and teach you how to look like a beautiful curly girl every day.

I Didn't Know What I Didn’t Know

I was born with curls. My mom embraced and enhanced them. ME, I loathed them. My curls weren’t pretty curls. One day they would waved at everyone I walked past and the next day my curls turned to frizzy spikes protruding from my head like danger signs. No two days were alike. HA, who am I kidding I never had a good hair day let alone a repeat good hair day. It had a mind of its own and every day you woke wondering what it would do today. Sound familiar? I spent 50+ years fighting my curls. From ironing it in my high school days to using soup cans for rollers to blow drying and flat ironing it every day. And most days, after all that effort, I would wear it in a ponytail, braid or bun to not have to deal with it. I’ve always liked my hair longer but each time I got it “styled/trimmed” it would leave me with a triangle head, or mass frizzing from a razor cut, or on and on until I had reached the point and cut it off. I blamed aging hair, thinning hair, that I had been coloring my hair for 20 years...you name it. I had resigned myself that I would never have hair someone seriously complimented. Fast forward.... Three years ago I decided to stop fighting the madness and let it go natural. No more covering up the gray roots, no more 32 bottles of products to trick it and twist it, no more heat! I would wear what God gave me. As my hair began to grow out I noticed more than just the obvious roots or how my entire head was now covered in gray. There was a change in my new growth texture and waves. As As my hair grew I continued to go to the same place for cuts but left realizing that I liked my hair more before I went in than when I left. I began researching curly hair. I found social media sites catering to curly girls and lots of new product recommendations, one for Deva Curl. I jumped on their sight watched all their videos and bought the shampoo and conditioner. Better but still not great. I kept going back and looking at local Deva Cut Specialists but felt like I was betraying my hair stylist of 15 years who was now a good friend. 18 months in, my hair was all one color and I was starting to see potential. I gave in and set an appointment with Jody. I’m not going to lie, I was a little shocked at the waiting list and cost of my initial appointment. BUT..I when I left I was confident I had done the right thing. I learned so many things about my hair that I didn’t know including that all the gels and mouses and spritzers and oils were causing much of my unsatisfactory results. Jody taught me what products to use and the proper way to apply them. How to properly clip my roots to get the lift I wanted. She taught me what the proper way to use heat to dry it and how to use all those many diffusers that were laying in the cabinet as well as how to let it air dry and the proper way to shake it out. THEN...she started cutting my hair. One curl at a time. Explaining the why the traditional sectioning and cutting doesn’t work for curly girls. Skeptically, I liked it a lot!! I liked it even more the next day when I was still bouncy and soft and awesome! By day 5 I knew I had made the right choice. So when did I love it, you are wondering? When a picture was posted of me the following week and my friend (and previous stylist) commented that how beautiful my hair was and she had never seen it look so good. She then privately messaged tell me I made the right choice. When on day 5 my hair looked better than it did on day 1. On day 6 when I washed and clipped my hair exactly how she taught me and it worked for me. On day 120 when my hair was longer and still held the shape the same way it did 4 months earlier when she originally cut it. I have been going to Jody for two years now. She continues to teach me new ways to work with what God gave me. I only need to go every 6 MONTHS to keep the length where I like it. Ohhhh as for my concerns about the cost, Jody has saved me more money than I could ever spend with her! I love her. I hope she never moves out of state or at least if she does make it somewhere Southwest fly’s!

Worth every minute and penny!

I have a 5 year old who is mixed (I’m white and my husband is black) I haven’t spent the past 5 years asking every mixed girl I saw, watching YouTube tutorials and reading blogs, I have a tote FULL of curly girl products I have tried and hated and then one day a new friend of mine that lives in Louisiana told me about DevaCurl. So I started a chat with their super helpful online specialist and even sent them pics of my daughters hair to figure out what process and products were right for her. They even helped with what order and how to use the products when talking with me bc that is key! We immediately (first wash) noticed a HUGE difference in my littles curls. The frizz was pretty much gone. That is when I knew our first trim needed to be with a DevaCurl specialist. I found Jody and to my surprise a ton of curly girls in my area use her too. So we booked (book now people this lady is a HOT commodity, and then put yourself on the cancelation list... as long as you answer your phone you can get in quicker than your appointment time that way) Jody spent the entire hour and a half walking me through my daughters hair, explaining to me what she was doing and why, she was super friendly with My daughter and took the time to listen to all her crazy stories while explaining to me her steps. We left their VERY satisfied... it was great to have such a professional actually put their hands on my daughters hair bc curly hair can be so different from person to person and tell me what I had been doing was right as well as teach me some game changing tricks!! We are already booked for our next trim!!
