Full disclosure.. I was late to this appointment. I did call and arrived when I said I would, but then had to be directed to an alternative location. I did not realize their were two locations to this salon. Upon arrival my stylist announced to the entire salon that I was late. I apologized and explained that I called and was willing to settle for a trim or whatever she had time for. I also said that if there was not any time for a cut that I understood and would happily pay for her time wasted and rebook my appointment. She rudely looked at me and said well I won't have time to blow dry your hair and I explain I wanted my hair cut dry. She responded by asking why I had booked a Deva Cut because my hair 'isn't even curly". (It is wavy.) This is when I should have stopped, but I was in such shock I let her wash my hair and prepare to cut it wet. After the wash she used a regular cotton towel to dry it, instead of something that is more friendly for wavy or curly girls like me. Followed by explaining to me about how bad condition my hair was in. At this point I told her all I wanted was a trim. Honestly, after such poor regard for my hair type I didn't trust her to do more than trim my hair. As she trimmed my hair, she made small talk. Asked where I was from. It turns out she lived there once. The entire time I was in the chair she did nothing but speak down on my home and how much she hated living there. I was appalled and speechless. I got out of the chair and paid my $75 & 10% gratuity. I'm pretty sure there is more hair on the floor when my boyfriend gets his monthly trim at the barber. I went home immediately and used a shampoo with sulfates to strip my hair just in case she used products that contained silicones. Women go to salons to feel good about themselves. I left this one in tears. Not because the trim was bad, but because she had such poor customer service and disregard for an ethnic hair type that was unlike her own. My lesson learned: I need to be better about standing up for what I want. Thankfully, I have had Deva Cuts in the past and know what to expect from a proper Deva Stylist. I would give zero stars if it was possible and do not recommend this salon.
