It had been over a year since I had a professional cut and never have I had an experience with a stylist who could actually tell me about my curly hair texture until now. I've tried many products and watched so many videos. I was relieved that he finally gave me a good tutorial on my hair and knew how to revive it. I'm grateful for the lesson and the cut. Thank you, Dennis and Blue Mambo!

I've had a few Deva-Curl stylists cut my hair in the past but none of them have done as good of a job as Dennis Ivey has. He's listened to what I want specifically and was able to get me to my desired look. I have very fine but thick curly hair and he was able to work with it and teach me how to style it well myself. My curls have always ended up in a pony tail or bun by noon because they would just get too frizzy and poofy. But because of the awesome cut and style he gave me and products he recommends I've been able to leave my hair down all day long without any issue! I'd definitely recommend him to anyone with curls.

I went to Dennis for the first time a couple of years ago after growing an appreciation for my curls. But due to previous carelessness and not taking care of my hair my curls needed tlc! Dennis showed me how to take care of my curls. I personally thought it was a bit pricey considering I was in and out in like 20 minutes. I would just go in for a cut and I wouldn’t get it washed. He would just add a bit of product after. But I never had any issues! He’s very sweet and although he is a bit blunt I had no issues and he definitely helped my hair become healthy and curly again! Along with using the right products!

Dennis does not follow the Curly Girl method. He uses hair brushes and protein treatments, both of which are forgivable. What is not forgivable is that he thinned the end of each curl. I went back to him 2 more times(more frequently than a regular curly girl needs a haircut) because this cutting technique ends up making curls frizzier and more unruly than before each haircut - meanwhile my long locks eventually became shoulder length. My best advice to any curly girl in Houston is to read the curly girl handbook before letting anyone cut your hair, because deva certification does not mean that they will follow the deva method. Direct quote: "You are a pretty girl but your hair is ugly." FYI My hair was beautiful, just in need of a deva cut, before I started coming to Dennis.
