Bummed :/ please read!

Service Received: DevaCut

Price: $51-$75

I’m bummed with my experience. I requested a DevaCut & was placed with Kristen. I was SO excited to finally get a haircut after going through 2020 without one. I told Kristen (who was very kind, don’t get me wrong!) I liked my hair long so wanted a trim, and would like to get long layers (I’ve been getting them for years) to add back some volume since the length was weighing down & stretching out my curls. It has taken me years to grow out my hair (and the use of biotin, no heat, protecting it from the sun, and otherwise than 2020, frequent trims) Kristen cut the most underneath later first (devastyle), and I told her it was too short. She said she would keep the rest longer... In my opinion she started to lack some confidence after this. Whether or not she was, I started to feel like I was not in good hands & felt anxious throughout the rest of the cut (as a curly girl this feeling is not unfamiliar to be in the least, but man, it is not fun!). When it was really time for her to stop cutting, the left and right sides were uneven. They had to be evened out. I left disappointed, knowing that I still have yet to find a stylist I can trust in the area. It looks fine enough much shorter than I had wanted, besides a couple straggler ends on some of my curls after washing. When I was going to leave this review on the deva website, I noticed that Kristen’s name wasn’t listed as a deva stylist. This concerned me, and I called Rio Blanco. I spoke with Marcia (who I think is a manager) who reassured me that Kristen was a specialist. Marcia told me that she doesn’t like to do DevaCuts herself, because she doesn’t think the dry technique holds up well after washing etc, and prefers to do wet cuts. Cool — great to know after my cut! She asked me to come in; she didn’t have availability, but wanted me to be happy with the cut. I appreciate the gesture, but I am just really feeling bummed. I would prefer to go to a salon where the stylists have more confidence with curly hair, and in the techniques they were trained in / their coworkers or themselves utilize.
