Best Deva Cut I've Ever Had!

CS|May 7, 2021

Service Received: DevaCut

Price: $76-$125

My hair has not been acquainted with scissors since last year and to be blunt-it looked frightful. My last Deva cut (from a salon in Narbeth) looked like someone had clipped a shape out of a paper bag and glued it to my head. That haircut had nothing to do with me, my face or my hair's growth pattern. When that kinda thing happens, there are 2 solutions-let it grow out or shave it all off. I chose the former, more conservative route. After reading a lot of reviews, I called Salon Papillon and booked a cut with Jim (Jian). He was cordial without being phony and wasted no time; he immediately asked me what I wanted before he touched my hair. I told him and explained what I disliked about my last cut. Without any snark, he showed me the length disaparities from the last barbering and I agreed that it was a bad cut. He told me what he was going to do and then took his time without engaging in a lot of chit chat. That isn't to say he was aloof or unfriendly. Not at all. More that he was paying keen attention to what he was doing and making sure everything was symmetrical and to his own high personal standards. I'd much rather the stylist concentrate on giving me a stellar cut than try to entertain me or come off as my new best buddy. Back in the chair with Jim after being shampooed, he applied styling product and went to work with the diffuser, cautioning me to never apply any product directly to my scalp. What I found absolutely great was that although he is Deva trained, he did not use their awful products on my hair. He diffused, scrunched and had me shake out my hair until he was satisfied with the result. I looked in the mirror and told him honestly it was the best cut I'd had in at least 5 years. My head and scalp felt loose and light as a feather and after a year in lockdown with only one previous, bad Deva cut at a different salon, I felt like a new person. That sounds corny and cliched, but it's very true. Jim did not try to sell me any products-Deva Curl or other nor did he insist I come back for another cut in 4 weeks. He came outside to thank me again after I'd left the salon and invited me to come back inside out of the wind when I was waiting for my return Uber. I said I was enjoying the air so we just hung out and chatted a bit together. He's a man of few words and tremendous talent. I respect that. Really-what's not to like? If you need or want a precision, expert Deva cut with no silliness, no upselling, no strained, phony small talk, no feeling like you have to spend $150 on 'their' styling aides or be subject to any extraneous faffing around, make the journey to see Jim in Wynnewood at Salon Papillon. You can thank me after.

Great curly cut by Jim

Service Received: DevaCut, Pintura Highlighting

I have been to this salon for several times, I trust Jim’s expertise and every single time I walk out with a great haircut that grows out nicely. At this area, he was the only hairdresser who cut my hair with evenly amazing layers and shape so far. He is attentive and professional who is truly passionate about precision haircut. He showed me how his Dyson Hairdryer works for drying curls because it drys them quickly and doesn’t blow the hair around too much, absolutely leaves the curls glossy and undisturbed after diffused. Transformation and styling with Devacurl products, it takes time but the salon has a relaxing and comfortable environment that allowed me to enjoy the lengthy process. I appreciated the time Jim and his assistant took to take care my hair.

Advice to those who need a Devacut

Melisa J.|February 8, 2019

Service Received: DevaCut

I was booking an appointment with Jim for curly haircut six months ago and I come back for cut & color. He adding round layers to dense my hair, which actually decreases the volume when styled correctly. It was a pleasure and I love my results. Even after a few months, my hair still look in a good shape with the amazing layers. After that, as I recommended this salon to my mom, she was full of anticipation but this time there was a lady named Aury did her curly cut. She was happy to answer all the questions which made her feel so comfortable. BUT, my mom didn’t got the result she was expected. Aury absolutely spend her time, she was friendly and talkative, but we don’t think she knows cutting hair, she even didn’t know what she was doing and cut my mom’s hair laminated and the layers completely disconnected. My advice to those who are booking a service here, if you are looking for a talented stylist to cutting your hair, Jim would never let you down. BUT, stay away from Aury, she cutting hair completely untechnical.
