Best decision I ever made!!
I've had my hair cut twice now by Megan and each time I'm blown away by the results. My first appointment was a consultation because I wanted to meet the person I would be trusting to cut my long 2B/C blonde locks. We discussed what I had in mind for my hair and at that point, I wasn't ready to say goodbye to my long hair; so we came to the conclusion that long layers would be a good start. Fastforward about 11-ish weeks. My hair had grown quite a bit, I had noticed my wavy-curls begun to stretch and were so weighted down and damaged from years of past heat damage bleaching that my hair looked wavy and frizzy with just a few actual curls underneath my hair by the nape of my neck. I knew it was time to get more than just a trim. So, I arranged a curly-cut appointment with Megan (I forewent a consultation because I knew what I wanted, and was confident that Megan would deliver) I got a good 4-5 inches cut off, some layers to add volume, and some pieces to frame my face. After the dry- cut, the wash, and diffusing I flipped my hair and I was absolutely shocked. My hair had so much height, body, and definition. Needless to say, this is the best haircut I have ever gotten. Also one more quick note, the atmosphere is so laid back and welcoming. All the staff make you feel comfortable and right at home. For me, any nervousness I had coming in for my appointment was gone by the time I sat down in the chair. Not to mention Megan answered any and all questions I had about DevaCurl products or tips on how to style my hair. The results I have gotten have made me a loyal customer and I will definitely be returning there for my next cut.
It was ok.
So quite a long while ago, I decided to try someone who was actually deva trained and booked an appointment with Kristy. No problem there. Day of the appointment though, Kristy seemed annoyed I was there and I did not feel welcome. There was no camaraderie or even simple chatting. It also felt like she didn't want to cut or deal with my curls (I'm 2C/3A). The cut itself felt fine there and looked ok when she finished though a little frizzy, but the next day my hair was frizzy as heck and would not curl! It stayed like that for a week till I booked an appointment with my regular stylist who was able to fix the problem; she chopped off about three inches at my request and that helped a lot. Definitely not coming back here again. I don't recommend anyone that doesn't have at least 3B hair to come here 'cause it seems like she can only work with hair similar to hers. To summarize, cut was ok, styling was ok, waaaaaaay too much frizz afterwards that required fixing.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS
6 months after my wedding im finally ready to talk about my horrible experience. My first appointment was with celeste because i wanted a feel for the salon. All i wanted was a quick trim and style as i was having my bachlorette party that day and see what she offered. I was currently looking for my wedding hair stylist and wanted a natural curly look. So the cut was okay, nothing spectacular because it was just an inch trim, but when we got to the styling and product education it all fell apart. I left the salon looking like a chia pet my hair was frizzy and looks like crap. I ended up running home and taking a shower to restyle my hair. Okay i said maybe a fluke. So i decided i wanted Kristy the owner to do my hair trial for my wedding because i figured she is the most experienced. The trial went very well, even though i felt as if she was annoyed by my presence. I said no big deal maybe shes having a bad day. I should have listened to my gut. We decided i would do my own wash and dry and she would just style it, because i didnt want a repeat of my experience with celeste. She also accommodated my request to come in early at 9am to do my wedding hair. It was a very simple style. Come 9am October 29th 2016 my wedding day. 15 MIN AFTER MY SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT THE RECEPTIONIST INFORMS ME KRISTY WILL NOT BE COMING "she got in a car accident" FROM WHAT I OVERHEARD THE STYLIST TALKING ABOUT KRISTY SURE DIDNT SEEM TO HAVE GOTTEN IN A CAR ACCIDENT, SAID SOMEONE WOULD BE HERE SOON TO DO MY HAIR .AS I SAT THERE CRYING NO ONE EVEN ACKNOWLEDGED ME. 940 ROLLS AROUND AND FINALLY ANOTHER STYLIST SHOWS UP TO HELP ME MEGAN. POOR MEGAN SHE DID HER VERY BEST TO HELP ME GET WHAT I WANTED. THROUGH THE TEARS I TOLD HER WHAT I NEEDED AND SHE DIDNT CHARGE ME. HONESTLY MEGAN WAS VERY SWEET I WOULD PROBABLY GO SEE HER AGAIN IF SHE WORKED AT ANOTHER SALON. LATER ON THROUGH THE CURLY GIRL GRAPEVINE, I DID INDEED CONFIRM KRISTY WAS NOT IN A CAR ACCIDENT AT ALL. Thankfully they are not the only curly girl option!
Happy and bouncy!
I originally. Intended to do this review the weekend that I had gotten my haircut but life got in the way and I have been able to maintain my lovely locks since my haircut. After many many years of straightening my hair and using products that were wrong, I went to see Kristy to have a no poo transition and to coax the natural waves I had when I was a girl. I am also growing out my hair for my wedding to make it easier to style. Kristy was able to do a styled dry cut as well as guide me through the steps to maintain my hair After three weeks, My fine hair is now bouncy, soft and the waves are now more pronounced. My hair is feeling healthier too. I've since referred many of my curly-haired friends to this salon for the Deva experience Thank you !!!
I haven't gotten my hair cut since I was 9 -- I am now almost 26. I came across this salon and felt comfortable that they would know how to work with my hair type being that they specialize IN ALL CURLY TEXTURED HAIR TYPES. When I sat in the chair I showed the stylist a picture of what I wanted and she told me that this style was doable for my hair. I SPECIFICALLY told her that I did not want length taken off - just boxy layers. My hair in it's natural curly state hit right below my bra line. What I left with was a round layered fro that hits ABOVE MY SHOULDERS. In the midst of my haircut the manager of the salon walked over and began playing with my hair and asked to see my inspiration picture - I showed her and she made a comment to the stylist and then walked away. I hate my hair now and I have absolutely no idea how to style it. This is why I do not get my haircut. I called Monday to speak to someone and try to get a refund on the 55$ haircut. The stylist could keep the tip and intend of keeping my retail I purchased but, I don't feel I should pay for something I did not want. I called Monday but the salon is closed so I followed up on Tuesday. I explained to the person I spoke with what had happened and how upset I was and that I did not trust to have anyone touch my hair again and they advised me that someone would be calling me the following day. It is now the following day, end of workday, far outside of the timeframe we spoke on and I am very disappointed in this salon. If I do not receive a call tonight I will be following up with them in the morning.
I've been looking for a Devachan salon for years. While on business in Minneapolis, I scheduled an appointment with Megan. She was fabulous! I finally knew I was in a space where people knew what to do with my hair. The cut was fantastic and her tips and advice were invaluable. She explained what she was doing and gave me pointers on how to care for my curls at home. I was nervous about the comments about online scheduling, so I called to confirm--there were no issues. I live 6.5 hours from Minneapolis and will most certainly be going back--even if only once a year for a great cut!
A little disappointed
I live in a rural area, so I traveled over 3 hours to attend a deva curl salon. I was told the appointment could take as long as 90 minutes which I was ok with because I wanted someone to take time with me and help me figure out how to deal with my hair. When I left, I was ok with my hair, it wasn't the amazing experience I had hoped for. My appointment took less than an hour including waiting time and paying. I wasn't encouraged to buy any deva curl products and the stylist used a diffuser on my hair but not even the deva curl diffuser, it looked like the one I have at home that came from Walmart. I know this sounds like a lot of whining, but when you pay $80 for a haircut, you expect a little more than an average experience. I've had a much better experience at a salon where I only paid $30. Sorry!
Had my first curly cut with Kristy - what a fantastic experience! She gave me a curl by curl dry cut, adding shape I didn't even realize I needed. So knowledgeable about curly hair & how to care for it. I came from out of town - 6 hour drive, but I will absolutely be going back. I've never loved my hair so much!
Megan is amazing, a wealth of knowledge
Just had my first cut at Uptown Curl with Megan. My cut is amazing. She cut each curl and gave me a beautiful shape to my curly hair. She is a wealth of knowledge on all things curly hair - products for styling, how to wash and when to put product on my curls. Just so happy!!
Don't use online scheduling
I booked an appointment online over a week ago with a specific stylist and received a confirmation for that stylist. I called today about my appointment next week to find out I am not booked with the stylist I received confirmation for but with a junior stylist! No available level 3 stylist available for same time (having to come the night before because of longer distance). I cancelled on the spot. MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT!!!!!
Can't get enough! The entire staff is friendly and curl knowledgeable. LOVE my hair when I walk out the door.
They totally changed my world/life. My hair is SO much healthier, looks fantastic and it's easier to maintain than it has been my whole life (and quicker too). ; > ) You definitely won't be disappointed!
Stylists who listen!
Great service, fantastic staff. You're in really good hands here. Never had a great cut for your "impossible" hair? Go here and change that forever. Cut, color, style. They can do it all, from edgy to traditional. Shop has a great energy too.
I love it that curls are valued here! It's the first salon I have been to where all the stylist know about curls and they want me to wear them proudly. The staff is very knowledgeable and always have answers to my questions. It's very clean and well taken care of too. I like to tell all my friends, and even strangers, where they can learn about and have "AH-Mazing curls come to life!
