Surprised by low ratings

I've been going to Jessica for years. If you don't want to get in the downtown bustle, this is the best place for Deva cut for miles! I found the place when I lived in Dorchester, and I just preferred the quick drive south rather than the slog north. But I've since moved out to Hyde Park, and I'm still going to drive in to Quincy to see Jess. She's friendly, and she listens. On my first cut with her, I realized the length was a bit annoying on the back of my neck, and she did a recut for free! I don't think the Deva cut is as great as the Ouidad, but it is nearly as good, and it grows out well - which is usually the problem for curly hair. But the best part is the price. You can't get a curly hair cut around here for less than $100, except at Leonardo's. I get coffee and a smile when I walk in, and I leave looking great for months.

Not passionate about curly hair

Service Received: DevaCut

Price: $76-$125

I got my hair cut by Jessica, who was late to the appointment and rushed through mine. She admitted that she usually cuts straight hair and isn't passionate about curly hair, only getting certified at the request of her boss. Her cut was very uneven and her tips were not right for me at all. What's worse is that the owner didn't follow up with me about my concerns. I wouldn't recommend this salon for devacuts.

Not so great...

Jessica O'Brien|March 9, 2017
I came here to get a devacut because they're the closest salon to me and it was easy to make the appointment online. I ended up unknowingly booking with the owner of the salon. While she's nice, I don't think she understands curly hair very well. She didn't ask me how I usually or would like to part my hair, or what my routine is, and when she styled it after the cut she used a TON of hair product. I had told her that I wanted a rounded look but my hair ended up looking more triangular. It wasn't terrible, but I've had so much better. She also seems to book appointments back to back, with no cushion of time in between, because I had to wait a good while before for her to start and then during my cut she started on another customer. Looking around, it looks like all of her stylists have straight hair or straighten their hair, which also makes me doubt anyone understands curly hair that well beyond the DevaCurl certification requirements. I won't be returning here and I'd advise my curly sisters/brothers/siblings to stay clear as well.
