Amazing salon, amazing curls and amazing people
I'm a long time client since Oasis introduced me to the DevaCut over 6 years ago. I have always found the people as amazing as my cut. They truly care about you, your hair and the community. I've always found them to be kind and respectful, never pushy on product suggestions (yes, they suggest and let you know what products they use, but if you're not interested at the time a simple no thanks or I'm good is sufficient). I've always been exstatic with my and my daughter's cuts (she's 6 now and they even did her first haircut). They pride themselves on making sure you leave satisfied. After fixing, drying and "releasing" (where you flip upside down and diffuse to break the gel cast) they show you your hair front and back and do mean it when they ask how you like it. There's a sign at the front register too that reminds you if you're not satisfied, let them know within (I'm blanking on the timeframe, 2 weeks?) so they can make it right for you. Oasis is a truly amazing place for Curly Girls and they inspire you to love your inner beauty and your natural self.
Horrible and EXPENSIVE Experience
I was BEYOND excited to finally try a curly hair salon and they talked a really good game. $316 later, I was very upset at the service I received. First, the stylist seemed to have a chip on her shoulder. I asked her simple questions but all of her replies were basically "Yea, I'm not doing that but feel free to visit another salon to get that done." I should have gotten out of the chair at that point but I stayed. It was my first visit and I was scheduled for a very expensive first time curly cut. She cut just a couple of curls and I sat there thinking THIS IS WHAT I AM PAYING FOR?! My hair literally looked exactly the same. Then she basically had no time to finish my hair apparently. I was supposed to receive a lesson at the washbowl on how to care for it at home but apparently I was just passed off to someone who I later learned was not even a stylist but "helping out because it was busy." I watched Terrell take his clients to the back and I just listened in on his helpful hints to his clients because I did not receive the treatment he gave his clients. GO TERRELL!! The "helper" hands me the mirror to watch what she is doing and to my horror I see CLUMPS AND CLUMPS of my hair in the washbowl. Well I freaked out and she says to me "oh that's normal." NORMAL?!!? I went home with a bald spot in the back of my head. She was so rough and pulled and pulled my hair until it sat in clumps on the inside of the sink. They said my hair needed some additional treatment - of course, I thought, another pricey add-on. They used hair products on me that were not devacurl despite me asking for devacurl. Finally, my stylist re-appears because she was doing someone's hair that came in AFTER me. She applies all NON devacurl products and puts....DRINKING STRAWS in my hair then under the dryer. For $316, I would think your salon would have proper styling tools other than cocktail straws/stirrers. She pulls me from under the dryer and my hair is flat as can be. I expected to be blown dry like others were being styled that day. I specifically said, I like volume and she places me under a hair dryer and it's completely flat. So I asked her to fix it. She said well I'll try to do my best. Again, for $316, I am going to need you to do better than TRY. She used more non-deva products for volume - didn't work. Finally, the appointment was over and I go to pay. The cashier has a SHOPPING LIST of products that I had to buy. NON-DEVA products, mind you. Devacurl, I suggest you remove this salon from your site because they are NOT using your products. They are using and telling clients to purchase NON-Deva products. By the way, these expensive products did NOT work in my hair and they smell TERRIBLE. They scheduled a follow up appointment for yet another haircut - yea, no thanks. This one would be only $95, but it's extra if you want them to actually finish your hair. Otherwise, you can go to the back do and your own hair using their products. I have NEVERRR heard of such a thing. A salon takes a big chance at letting customers do their own hair. NEVER EVER EVER AGAIN!
Not that great of a cut
The cut was not very good. They did explain how to take care of the hair and that was thourough and good.
I hated it
Worst Cut Ever
This was my first (and last) cut at Oasis. Celeste cut my curly hair too short into a traditional bob. It was such a bad cut I went back and Kelli did what she could to fix it, but my cut is unevenly layered and. Just a horrible cut. It can't grow out quickly enough to get a good cut somewhere else.
stylist lack of communication
I requested a trim and a wash. However, they trimmed my hair and applied the Olaplex treatment to my hair without washing it. Even after I mentioned my hair needed to be washed. They stated my hair was heat damaged and it was not. I often put my hair up while it is wet. This has stretched my curls but it is not heat damage.
They are very friendly. However, everytime I have visited they always use other products on my hair when I tell them I use Deva Curl products only. I know what products work for my hair and which products do not work for my hair. I know that my hair is highly porous and easy to tangle so don't use other products. I gave them another chance and I was not impressed with the finished product. I will not be returning.
This is one of the best Salons I have been to for my curly hair and I also now bring my daughter here. Not only are their cuts amazing everything I have been here but their colorist is superb! I have gotten cuts from both Wafaya and Celeste for both my corkscrew curls and my daughter''s boticello curls. I drive all the way across town for this place and will continue to because of the great service but also because the atmosphere is so curl empowering and they do wonderful community service events and support. Seriously:come here! Your search for a hair home has ended when you walk in the door!!
I received the best cut and treatment that I've ever had at Oasis. The custom cut perfectly frames my face and my curls are more defined than they've ever been. I was also given instructions on how to treat and maintain my curls at home. I will never allow anyone else to touch my hair now!
I saw stylist Terrell, and he did a fantastic job! I am in love with how he cut and styled my hair. He took the time to teach me how to take care of my hair on my own and I can't wait to go back for my next appointment.
Great First Time Experience
Stylist: Kelli Rating: Salon Rating: 5 Scissors My salon experience was by far one of the best experiences (relaxed hair and natural hair)! Everyone was professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and generous with information (to make styling at home easier)! Terrell did my clarifying cleansing as well as deep conditioning and he was very gentle, knowledgeable, and had great curls! No one has ever detangled my hair so thorough before today! Usually people give up and just start pulling combs and brushes through my thick/course hair. When he finished my hair, I set under the steamer to help the deep conditioner penetrate. Kelly did my curl defining/set, cut, and style. While she was setting my hair with the curling products she was not only informing me on ho to moisturize and style my hair, but she was also learning my hair texture as well. She didn't like how one product left the feel of my hair so she literally rinsed it out and tried another product! (This is something else I have never experienced in a salon.) Next, she didn't like how the second attempt product felt in my hair so SHE TRIED ANOTHER product!! She declared victory with the third set of products. Finally, with her magic fingers she set my curls which I could see developing with just conditioner alone (something my hair NEVER did)! Kelly did a wonderful job with the devacut (I got it rounded versus the upside triangle). It was exactly what I requested and she didn't turn me away from the mirror! Overall, I had a wonderful experience and I have already booked my next appointment (6 weeks) for a clarifying cleanser and treatment to strengthen my hair. I will continue this for the next 6-7 months until my hair is fully hydrated (it is really dry and easily tangled). Thank you Oasis!
I went here over a year ago twice. Once for highlights and once for a cut. They did not adhere to Devacurl cutting dry, one curl at a time. Hightlights were a disaster, as the shampoo girl tried aggressively to get my knots out with a brush. Anywhere that claims to know curly hair should not be using brushes and should not be pulling hard on my hair. I ended up in tears from the pain, finally asking if I could brush my own hair out. Never returned after the second experience.
The stylist were wonderful. The environment was welcoming. There's a lot of diversity. But the results were the best. They taught me how to take care of my hair at home while I enjoyed the leisure of them doing it for me at the salon
