Oh my god :-(
I had my first Deva Cut of my life back in 2015 with Amy and I find only now he opportunity to review it. It was awful and frightening. Amy clearly didn’t have the experience and professionalism to do this job. I had beautiful highlighted ends in my hair and she asked me how they did them to me. She was talking aloud repeating to herself the steps to make to treat my hair like repeating the lesson before the test. She was totally unsure of the timing and kept checking the color and changing her mind about rinsing. She said “they taught me to do like this” meaning that she didn’t own the Deva “Method”, she was just blindly replicating what someone told her to do without her own personal judgment and responsibility. I wanted my highlights refreshed and the work she did was just invisible even in daylight. The cut was a useless trim here and there of a few random curl. And for this joke I even had to pay $180. What a shame.
Unfortunately, I had a really awful experience at the West End Salon. I'm one of those people who never writes reviews, but I felt compelled to say something after. I've got crazy curly hair, which I've struggled with since high school. I got some sense in college and have been getting DevaCuts ever since (thank god!). I don't make much money, so I only get my hair cut once or twice a year. I try to save up and go somewhere good (it's my personal treat for having a little self esteem). I came in to the salon to have an appointment with Jo. She seemed friendly and nice, but then my cut looked a little funky after and she talked me into a getting a product (Decadence) which didn't seem to fit the issue I was having (heavy buildup). I felt weird about it, but was trying to trust her judgement. After going home and washing my hair and settling back into my routine for a couple days, I discovered that my cut was totally uneven! There about an inch to and inch and a half difference between my left and right (confirmed by a friend who encouraged me to reach out to them). After much agonizing, I called the salon back and asked for a touch up. I told the receptionist that I felt really bad, but I just needed it evened out. She was really nice and booked me a time to come in. That's when things got REALLY awful. I came in (with the product I didn't like and the receipt to see if I could swap it out) and tried to explain to Jo that I would just like it evened out. She was so rude and treated me like an idiot. After just a couple minutes of her angrily telling me that I really shouldn't change it and that she can't even it out without taking more off (which...yeah that's the point), I actually got up and ran out of the store. By the time I got to my car I was in tears. I ended up dropping almost $200 on a product that is awful for my hair and on a cut that makes me feel worse about myself than I've felt since the poodle days of high school. I even called them back to let them know that I had a really hard experience, and never heard back. Please, please don't go!
Janina is the greatest!
Janina is wonderful, talented, and amazing. She has made it so that I totally appreciate my curly (used to be unruly) hair.
Awesome Experience with Stylist Alex
I have used Deva Curl products for over a year and love them! Not many stylists know how or what to do with curly hair, however, Alex is amazing! Not only did she dry cut my hair, giving me one of the best haircuts I have ever had, she also taught me to use every Deva Curl product I had at home. It makes such a difference to have a professional teach you how to use the Deva Curl line and how each product interfaces with another. It is very clear that Alex loves what she does every day and it is also a bonus is that she loves to play with curly hair! I wouldn't recommend anyone better to cut and style curly or wavy hair.
