I am saddened by the negative responses. At Cocos, we LOVE DEVACURL PRODUCTS! It is one if our biggest selling lines. I would never knock it, nor would I ever alter it!! What we strive to do is educate our guests when they are having challenges. What I may have pointed out is that glycerin sometimes can be drying in the winter. I am truly sorry for any sub par experiences. To improve things,I have taken steps to ensure that we are not over booked, and have the time to do a quality finish. Thank you for the feedback, it helps us grow. I had just come back from beating breast cancer at that time. Probably should have been going at a slower pace! ♥️
SHE ONLY PROMOTES HER OWN PRODUCTS
Kim told me that DevaCurl was terrible to use in the winter. I told her I exclusively use DevaCurl and wanted a DevaCut. After she wet my hair, and put product in, she told me she was using her own Orgamix line and not DevaCurl. She told me I had to buy Orgamix products and stop using DevaCurl for the winter. She left in the middle of my haircut multiple times to help other customers. She did not even finish drying my hair because she ran out of time. I had to leave with wet hair in the middle of winter! I had to go straight to an event and my hair looked terrible. Definitely do not recommend.
Joanna listened to all my tales of woe of past hair cuts and lifted my layers like I've asked numerous hairstylists to do.
Not Deva Curl Quality!
Entire staff was very unfriendly. The "Deva" haircut and color left my hair LESS CURLY than when I came in. The color and highlights took hours to complete and I left with white roots!!!!! Then came the price for this mess $250!!!! I also bought Deva Curl shampoo and conditioner from this salon, which did not seem like the real product. The conditioner was so thick I couldn't even get it out of the bottle, I have never had this problem before with the Deva Curl products. One of the most uncomfortable experiences I have ever had at a hair salon. Highly do NOT recommend.
So the worst haircut I've ever gotten had been when I was given what looked like a Pedro haircut from Napoleon Dynamite.. yeah I wasn't thrilled.. A good friend of mine told me to go to Coco's beauty bar and recommended Joanna. With my track record with traumatizing experiences with hairstylists I was nervous to see her but I'm SO glad I did! Not only she listens to what you want but she will add flare to what you want, she's the equivalent to Edward Scissorhands! I don't let anyone touch my hair but her. Definitely recommend her
Always happy with the results
I get my hair done by Joanna and I'm always very happy with the results. She listens to what I ask and never takes more than needed. She always gives me new tips and tricks to to ensure that I get the most bounce in my curl! If you choose to see her book well in advance! It's sometihard to get in with her... in my opinion, she is one of the best at cocos.
Cocos Hair and Beauty Bar has done wonders for my hair! I never use to wear my hair curly until I started seeing Kim a year and a half ago. Kim is very talented and I love how my hair is super curly silk and smooth! I have only straightened my hair twice in a year and a half!
A great experience
I'm in the transition process. Kim gave orientation about how I can take care of my hair. My haircut was great and she tried that I feel comfortable with every step process.
Not Deva Inspired
She used the scissors as sheers instead of snipping them. My ends are toast
3 good things about this salon, she gave me a mug of water, and mentioned a 7 day guarantee if I wasn't happy, I liked the size of the salon. I phoned and asked for a devacut specifically after seeing the salon listed on this website. I have done enough research, read the book, and watched all of Lorraine's interviews and demos online to know that I did not receive a devacut. What I did wrong and take responsibility for, was not mention the stylist by name specifically who are listed as devainspired on the website, because the "colorist, brow/makeup artist" (as per her card) who answered the phone just snapped me up for herself for the cut. I walked in with freshly washed, moisturized bouncy curls, needing a trim and walked out with hair that had no bounce and was weighed down by too much heavy and perfumed product. No devaproducts were used, she called the noise my hair made when wet and scrunched "that gross sound", she brushed it wet with an old and damaged "wet brush" because she tangled it in the sink from rubbing the salon brand of "clarifying" shampoo very vigorously all over my head, hair needs moisture right now in the cold winter, I dont even use enough product for there to even be build up to clarify, my hair is thick but fine in texture. She cut my hair dry with scissors in a razor fashion, my ends are frayed instead of tightly curled, then she took scissors to wet curly hair after the wash "the clean things up, no length or shaping", braking rule #1. Salon brand products were pushed very very very hard on me as I was trying to pay for the cut and leave, and none of it would have fit my hair needs, she didnt pick up all of my hints during the appointment that my hair is happy using devaproducts. My usual wavy mermaid hair was not touchable, soft, or even curly. She spoke to me about my hair like I was an infant not capable of managing the hair that grew out of my own head, I didnt appreciate that, since I walked in with a good head of healthy hydrated hair already. I wasnt looking for some amazing before and after, Ive been making very educated decisions of what I use on my hair and how I use it, but I dropped the ball here. But when she was done I could tell she expected me to be in shock of "how much better it looked now", she even said that that a couple of times herself, which hurt my feelings, how could she think my hair looked worse then it did now? No one that I saw that night after my appointment agreed with her so I know I'm not a crazy curly customer. I have before and after photos but there is no where to submit them here. Should I call the salon and ask for a re-do? Do I even take that risk? How much faith is left? What is the proper etiquette for requesting a different stylist? Why is this so exhausting?
Kim is fantastic
Kim just GETS IT. She's been cutting my hair for a while now and I trust her completely. She's sharp enough to look at inspiration pics and translate them into what my own curls can do, and is inventive and risk-taking enough to ensure your curly cut won't look like everyone else's. I recommend her to everyone who stops me to ask about my hair... and it happens a lot. My curls look well-tended, healthy and vibrant even in Winnipeg's dryest and harshest weather.
