Stylists at this salon
Forever a fan
I have been coming to Lorinda's and seeing Andy since 2014. I would not trust anyone else with my hair. He is very attentive and detailed, and my hair always looks fabulous after I leave. As for the negative reviews- most Devacuts are going to be $60+ which honestly, for a specialized cut, by someone trained in curly hair techniques- is not bad, and they take their time. Most regular salons would still charge at least $40 or $50 (less the tip) and they rush you out - I would much rather spend the extra $20 to get a cut that caters to my hair. Not to mention - most salons have a hierarchy of status -i.e. the more experienced your stylist is, the more they tend to cost. I get my hair cut every 3-4 months - so honestly, spending the money for a Devacut winds up being cheaper than if I were to spend $40 a month at a salon that does not know my hair. _Steps off podium._ Andy is awesome, Lorinda's is awesome.
Love my Deacut every time!
After many months of contemplating a Devacut and the idea of spending extra money I finally bit the bullet and made an appointment. I schedule a devacut with the Deva 3 step. I loved my stylist. She was young, fun and wonderful to talk to during the appointment. I was nervous about a couple of things because I was not used to the dry cut idea and drying my hair with a hood dryer since I use a diffuser and dry my hair upside down for maximum volume. When I left my hair was not what I normally was used to, but I thought "it's okay, she doesn't know how I like to style my hair. Just go home, wet it down and style it how you normally do." Low and behold, my hair was amazing! The curls were so uniform, shiny, bouncy, and full of volume! I have been back about 4 times since then for cuts and colors (I really love trying new things) and have never been disappointed. I love how all the stylists work together and get advice from one another. They also listen so well to what you want and work with you to make sure you get what you want. They are willing to sit there and do something over again right there to make sure you are happy when you leave. They make each haircut tailored to each person. For example, my stylist noticed that I like to take some of my hair in the front and flip it to either side of my head to get more volume in the moment. So, she cut that section of hair so the layers would be there no matter where I flipped it. When I come in to get it colored she also makes sure the color is in certain spots to again when I flip it the color is still there. I have finally found my salon! Never looking back!
Not a DevaCut
If you think you are going to get a cut as described on this site or in Lorainne Massey's book, guess again. You will pay an extra $30 for a regular cut. The atmosphere in the salon is grim, dysfunctional, unwelcoming. Everyone is in walled up in their own misery, not caring and not communicating. This is something that comes from the top, down. Employees must come in with goodwill but have it crushed out of them. No one wanted to be there and it rubbed off on me. Instead of leaving with a spring in my step and feeling a bit more beautiful, I was cranked out by a machine of dead-end people who took no interest in me beyond my wallet. Beauty and style are all about the importance of what you have to offer, your talent and skills, and your ability to connect with the expectations of your client, to educate your client and work with their ideas, to inspire, to impart flair and grace. Lorinda's has none of this. Also, the lighting is dismal, makes you look terrible. The noise level and decor are ghastly. Not a pampering experience in anything but the high prices. I have been a fan of Lorraine Massey for years but no longer because she leads people to believe that her referrals are to people who perform DevaCuts. When I complained to the company they said, well, we just share our philosophy and hope they use it. This is not a certified training, not even close. It is just advertising BS. My hair was cut blunt in layers just like they do at the strip mall chain store barber/salon shops. The experience was shabby and I felt truly ripped off for having fallen into the trap of believing the salon and DevaCurl.
I’ve been getting my Devacuts at Lorindas for about a year now. Every other salon has butchered my hair, but when I come to Lorindas they take great care of me. I’ve had my hair cut by a couple different stylists when my main one is booked up and I’ve been more than pleased every time. Thank you, Lorindas!
Very expensive for what feels like regular cut
After giving this some thought and doing some research, I'm not sure what I'm getting is a true devacurl cut. I am happy with the color but NOT the cut. They do cut your hair when it's dry, however to create layers they were pulling my hair straight up and uncurling my curls to create the layers. From what I'm reading this is a no-no, you're supposed to cut WITH the curl in. My hair looks like a triangle again.. the very thing I went in to fix. Not to mention when they are done washing your hair they rub it with a towel to dry it which makes my hair VERY frizzy. Then they say "oh I'll apply product to calm the frizz" yeah.. it doesn't work. I had to re-wash my hair when I got home to fix what they did. So frustrated...
Rachel is fantastic for me.
I've been coming here for about 3+ years. I started with Rachel and really love her willingness to educate and work with me as I experiment with cuts for my curles. Rachel is very personable, friendly and knowledgeable. I love hearing updates of her little man. When she was on leave I worked with Andy who is traffic too. I have referred 2 friends here who worked with Andy and they were very pleased. The whole crew is so attentive, professional and friendly. I love coming here. Pam
Not a deva-cut
This was the first deva salon I tried, and I was disappointed. My hair looked worse when I left than when I went in, and the cut was basically just a wet cut done dry. No attention to the curl patten at all.
