If you are new to Deva Cuts/just transitioning and looking for a stylist/have done this forever and need a new stylist LOOK NO FURTHER!! This salon is by far the best in Seattle for curlies and Ingrid is the best gal/friend/stylist EVER! I came in last month for my very first Deva Cut - I had stoped using heat in June - and my hair was half curl half straight, damaged, split ends everywhere and Ingrid made it look incredible. Honestly, I was so shocked! We cut of the dead ends, she showed me how to best style my hair (who knew you put your products in before even drying your hair?!) and now one month later my curls are alive and poppin! I have never seen my hair looking so good! This salon is incredible and the people are totally chill and down to earth! Stop in, you wont regret it!R
If you're nervous or distrusting of stylists working with really curly hair like I was - you'll be in good hands, trust me! I'd never found anyone to cut my hair who I could trust to know how to work with curls, so I was so excited to see that Haven had multiple stylists with DevaCurl training. I was looking to switch salons anyway, as my recent colorist had completely damaged my hair and left me with a chemical cut that looked a total mess. In my first appointment, Ingrid did an amazing job foiling & toning my hair to a cool silver/blue which I LOVED - she really understood what outcome I was going for & explained the process to me thoroughly. We didn't have enough time to do a cut then, so I made another appointment to do a big chop & get bangs - neither of which I've ever done before! I was so nervous but Ingrid again talked me through it & explained how I could style it myself too (even days later via text when I had a panic moment). I'm so glad I found Ingrid to take care of my curls!!
I was really looking forward to my appointment with Alisha today, as I made this appointment about two months ago to make sure I got a Saturday appointment, as I work Monday-Friday. I drove about two hours to Seattle only to be told my appointment would need to be rescheduled. At first Alisha said another stylist could aw me today, then she said they were leaving early to "to do eclipse stuff" and that we'd need to reschedule. I was very disappointed with my experience with this salon and would not recommend booking with them, especially if you don't live close by.
I found Haven Salon through this website and read reviews on other sites. I chose Alia to cut and color my hair. I have long, curly, red hair that is well into turning white. I met with Alia and talked about the kind of cut and color I wanted, and talked about how I'd like to start incorporating some lighter colors into my hair so my color grow-out was less conspicuous. I've also always wanted some more layers and lift on top and have never been able to get any stylist to cut the style I've been seeking. Alia took her time on the cut-a long time-and the color was several stages of coloring. I was not in a hurry and I let her do what she needed to do. I walked out of there with the best haircut in my 55 years and the best, most enduring color job I've ever had. I love the products (Decadence) and even though I've had curly hair my whole life, the techniques Alia taught me for conditioning and drying/styling have given me the best hair of my life. I can't recommend Alia or Haven enough. I drive almost 100 miles to see her and it's well worth it. Thanks, Alia! And thank you, Haven, for being a curly woman's dream salon.
Ingrid, thank you so much for a great haircut! I have thin, fine, corkscrew curly hair and needed a shape without hair looking sparse. She did an amazing job of giving me a wonderful style without losing much length! Also got lots of tips of what to do and not do with my hair (always learning as a curly girl - wink). She used new Deva Curl products I hadn't tried. Overall, a wonderful experience and would highly recommend Ingrid.
I found Alisha Riff (a stylist certified in the DevaCut) on Instagram and I am so glad I did! She gave me a DevaCut and my hair has literally never looked this great! She sat me down, gave me the cut, then washed, conditioned and styled my hair amazingly! She used the Micellar Water Buildup Buster as shampoo, then Heaven in Hair as a conditioner, and styling cream, ultra defining gel, spray gel and Mirror Curls to style. She was gentle yet thorough while de-tangling my hair too! She really knows what she is doing. After that she put me in a hairdryer to dry, then diffused my hair a little. My hair looked great immediately after I left the salon, and looked amazing after I washed it and re-styled it. I will definitely be going back to her for my next DevaCut, and will be buying more DevaCurl products soon too because all the products made my hair feel so soft, moisturized and defined my curls so well! I have 3c/4a hair and because I have such curly hair, I have literally never had a great experience with a hairstylist before now. I couldn't recommend Alisha more!
Alisha is EVERYTING! I have naturally curly hair that was so damaged from heat. I never embraced my natural texture and only wore it curly on certain occasions. I thought my hair was beyond repair. Alisha made me LOVE my hair again. She was so encouraging and made sure I was comfortable with everything she did. I actually had a hair dresser and left her to become a loyal client to Alisha. Don't be deterred because she doesn't have curly hair, she knows her stuff!!! I am not an easy customer and like most, I'm super careful about who does my hair. I could not be happier, seriously. Not only is she incredibly talented, but she has the warmest spirit. I love going to see her! If you have curly hair, go see her. Don't be nervous. She will take the BEST care of you.
My first devacut, I was REALLY happy! I didn't realize how the stylist's attitude during the haircut can affect you. I avoided going to a salon because the hairstylists always hesitated, and made me lose my confidence. And of course, the results were unsatisfying even though the stylists tried their best. However, Alisha was confident and it made me feel better, and the results spoke for themselves! It was so much easier to take care of my curls. I love the devacurl products, and after the cut I could use a lot less of it to get the results I wanted because it was already so much more organized.Thank you Alisha! Sad I had to leave town for college, if I'm in town again and in need of a haircut I will make sure to stop by again!
I can honestly say that I've never experienced that post salon "I don't want to wash my hair it looks so good" that my straight haired friends rave about. Now I have! I've gotten a devacut before but I wasn't thrilled about it, I didn't feel like the previous stylist had listened to my hair concerns. So I branched out and tried Alisha and I am SO GLAD I did! I hestitated with chosing a stylist and was kinda hesitant because Alisha herself doesn't have curly hair but she was very knowledgeable and my fears were put to rest! I told Alisha what I wanted and she was just excited as I was about the big chop I wanted to make. That made me feel so comfortable because she wasn't just cutting my hair, she was really invested in making my hair look good. She was very thorough, I left feeling amazing, didn't have to add any product to it, and I can't stop looking in the mirror and taking selfies! This is the best haircut I've ever gotten. I'm sad it took me so long to find Alisha so I wanted to write this review so that my fellow curly girls can find a good cut!
I have lived in Seattle for 3 years and FINALLY found a stylist who can handle my thick, wavy hair. Alisha listened to what look I was trying to achieve and translated it very well into the cut. I am still getting complements weeks later, even when I style it my own way!
After finding out about the DevaCurl products in Teen Vogue and transitioning from relaxed hair to natural hair, I finally decided to take the plunge and find a stylist with enough experience to trim off my damaged ends. I hadn't had a proper haircut in about 2 years and I've never had anyone cut my hair dry, but I really wanted to do right by my hair and all of the hard work I had put into it.I found HAVEN via the DevaCurl website and was able to book an appointment online, which was super easy. Lisa greeted me the moment I walked into the salon and when I sat in the chair, she went over the entire process of the DevaCut with me. We talked about my specific needs and the products I was already using. During each stage of the DevaCut, she explained what she was doing and why, which I thought was just fantastic. She presented me with plenty of tips to get the most out of my hair and how to use products I had never used before so that my hair wouldn't feel frizzy or crunchy.I booked a follow up appointment before leaving and can't wait to go back. HAVEN is a great salon with a really fun vibe and Lisa is so charming and personable.
I love my Stylist - Lisa...(I didn't realize she had a top certification- cool! ) Having very, very curly hair it's been difficult for me to find anyone that could consistency make it look as good as Lisa does. I have only seen her a 3 times but I am loving it so far... Thank you Deva Curl for the referral...BTW, She spoke about her Father-in-law once…since he passed. I actually thought it was sweet...Anyway, I am a huge fan of Lisa!!!
I had my first DevaCut with Alisha a few weeks ago and absolutely loved the results! I had never had a hair cut experience with a stylist who knew curly hair - both cutting and styling was a great experience. I walked away loving how my hair looked and with great information from Alisha on products for styling. 3 weeks later and I'm still loving it!
I recently got a Devacut from Alisha and am so happy with the results! I am new to Seattle and she was very friendly and welcoming. The salon itself is super cute and I immediately felt relaxed and like my hair was going to be in good hands. Alisha gave me one of the best shampoos I have ever had! I can't believe how relaxing it was. We discussed how I wanted my layers to be and she gave me great advice for future cuts to achieve my goal length for my layers. My curls look great and I will definitely be going back for a second cut :).
I found Haven Salon through the devacurl website, and saw they had two stylist that had top certifications. I initially wanted to try Alia- but she was expensive and then I saw Lisa and she was booked a month an half out. So I took a chance on Lisa and that is where I made the mistake. I get there a was greeted and a few moments later I sat in Lisa's chair. She asked me about my hair and what I was looking for. I told her that it took me two year to grow my 4c hair to neck length and that I wear it in braids(for work). She tried to strike up a conversation with me about her black grandfather and how he wear his hair in a afro. Yes, I am black but if your not black- I am personally not interested in what black person you know and how that ties with me. Anyways, she told me that she was going to thin out the side and leave the top long. I agreed with that , but kept trying to remind her that I wear my hair in two big braids( cornrow/ boxer braids). When she did the cut and I saw it I was not pleased, she asked me if I was happy with it so far. I told her that " I wasn't feeling it- translation that I didn't like it and let's see if it would turn out better after she styled it. She proceed to wash my hair with the deva curl product and when it got time for the conditioner, instead of raking my hair in the shampoo bowl( because it kinky and short) she had me bend over and she squeezed the excessive water out of my hair. When I left the dryer and she sat me back in her chair, my hair looked like two inches was cut from my hair. I had a very displeasing look on my face. I didn't say anything because sometimes my words cut people. Then she began to "dust" the top of my hair. She finally realized that I wasn't happy she asked if I like the hair. I told her NO; that I told her that I wear my hair in two big braids and it took two years to grow my hair from a big chop. She told me that I told her to cut and if she was misinformed? I told her I did say cut , but not this much and how am I going to go to work with my hair like this. Needless to say I was very unhappy with my hair and I paid the $75 and just left. I am so glad she didn't ask me any other questions, because I was two seconds from becoming the stereotypical black female. I should of paid more for Alia. NOT HAPPY!
Thanks for the awesome hair! Apparently, Tara's ability to make my curls look more managed is noticeable to other people and I always get tons of positive comments!
Alia is by far the best Deva stylist I have met. She understands curly hair and works with you to get what you want. Her attention to detail is incredible, making sure each curl is cut and shaped nicely. She will also work with you to figure out which Deva product works best for your hair. Haven Salon is for sure a true Deva certified Salon!!
Alisha just cut the best cut of my life. No straightening to cut my hair or getting my hair trimmed dry and looking like a poof ball when it is styled. First we talked through what I wanted and she listened. When she needed to cut a little more to make it even, she ASKED me. Then she put color in my hair. During the entire washing and styling process, she showed me how to style it and what to do. Anytime I had a question, she was excited to help me. The color was also pretty dope. To cut, color, and style my hair is a triple score because no one has been able to do that for me unless it was straight. Did I mention she is also down to earth. Don't believe me, check her work out. She has done all different hair types. Just scroll through all the different pics and you'll see her Instagram is alishamarie_hair. Everyone that I talked to in the salon was also pretty friendly as well. So I'm pretty sure you can't go wrong. I, however, have found the stylist for me, I'm pretty sure you won't be disappointed especially if you have 3c-4c hair.
I had a so-called deva-cut at another salon, and it was basically a wet style cut done dry. My hair has been growing out for 3 months and was starting to look really ratty, so I took another chance and booked with Tara at this salon. She barely touched my hair - just worked in the curl pattern, but managed to completely change the shape and it looks great now!
I had never used DevaCurl products before, or much of any hair product for that matter. But Alisha taught me how to do my hair using DevaCurl and I loved the result! I also had my hair cut shorter than I'm used to which usually makes me nervous, but I walked out feeling very confident in my natural curls. Alisha is great and I am already excited for my next appointment!
I've had my hair styled with Deva products before, but never had a "Deva cut" until Tara hooked me up. After about two years of trying to cut my own hair because I couldn't find anyone to do it right, my only request was to "give me some shape." Tara totally delivered, giving me bounce, curl, and a flattering cut. I love the new diffuser and Deva products she used (Coconut Curl Styler for the win!), and even though I couldn't quite nail the styling on my own the first time, I texted her for help and she walked me through how to always get my best curls. Tara is definitely my stylist now, and I'm forever a Deva fan. Plus, Haven Salon is a super cute and chill spot to hang while you're waiting for the chair or for your Uber to pick you up.
For all my curly girls out there and mom's with kids who have curls, look no further! Alia is amazing!!!! My sister and I are both mixed with Black and Asian being the breakdown of the many other cultures. Growing up my mom having straight Asian hair had no clue what to do with us when it came to hair. After becoming of age my sister and I ventured out for ourselves only to be disappointed stylist after stylist. We were teased a lot because we barely knew what to do with our hair. So the only thing we could think of was to burn it up with hot combs and straighteners. I had a bad cut a few years ago, my long beautiful but heat damaged hair had been chopped off!! I finally decided it was time to let my hair have a rest and do it's thing, but I still didn't feel confident; that is until my best friend introduced my sister and I to Alia!!!!we had the privilege of Alia working her magic and boom!! like a Cinderella story it came with a happy ending. we left with a devacut and some products and hair I can feel proud of without feeling a hot mess. My curls look great my hair feels healthy!!! Alia is an angel sent from the curl Gods
As I'm sure many of us curly girls have experienced I've had my share of bad haircut experiences. From wetting my hair to chopping most of my hair to above my chin, the struggle has been intense. I have very thick, very curly hair that is incredibly dry in some areas and is difficult to struggle. I'd heard about the Devacurl products and the Devacut so I decided to give it a go. Found this site, found Alia, saw positive reviews on yelp, and booked my appointment. So I washed my hair the day before and walked in with my mane. Usually this is the point where stylists' eyes go really wide and they look slightly scared. But Alia just smiled and looked SO excited. As a curly girl for once I'd like a stylist to see my hair and be excited rather than intimidated. Once I got in her chair she asked me what I wanted. I told her I didn't want to go too short (my hair was a bit past my shoulders), I wanted to avoid the 'triangle look' and I wanted hair to frame my face. We looked at a few pictures and decided to just go for it. The first snip of hair was a little scary but it's also really great being able to actually see how your hair is going to turn out after you wash it. Throughout the hair cut/ wash Alia explained exactly what she was doing, why she was doing it and gave me some tips as to what I could be doing differently/what products to use. After the initial cut she washed and conditioned my hair using the DevaCurl Decadence line (which I went out and bought it was that good). She styled my hair (I'm now styling it the way she did because again-the end result was awesome.) She set me up under the defuser afterwards and after about 20 minutes when the majority of my hair was dry Alia cut it a little bit more. This is BY FAR the BEST haircut I've ever had. Never have I been able to go out after a haircut because I've had to come home and restyle it. I can't wait to come back to Alia! She is AMAZING. She understands curly hair, encourages her clients to embrace their curls, and knows how to style them. I am absolutely coming back for all my future hair cuts! I would definitely recommend her to my other curly haired friends.
This was my first deva cut and it is definitely the best cut I've ever had. My hair still looks good months after the cut. I went to Lisa-she has curly hair (don't let her profile photo on their website fool you). This salon has online booking with prices listed which was very easy to use.
