ADVOCATING FOR INCLUSIVITY IN PROFESSIONAL HAIRCARE
At DevaCurl we recognize that important change is needed within professional beauty education to ensure hairstylists receive inclusive education to better support and serve ALL hair types. Together with the Professional Beauty Association and other professional industry leaders we created the Texture Education Collective™ to advocate for much needed change.
The Texture Education Collective
The Texture Education Collective™ was formed by an alliance of the Professional Beauty Association, DevaCurl and other professional hair industry leaders, with a shared goal of encouraging cosmetology state board licensing requirements and curriculums nationwide to be inclusive of all hair types and textures.
The Mission
We envision an inclusive professional hair industry for all, from behind the chair and beyond. We want to pave the way for all consumers to feel welcomed, valued, understood, and seen when getting serviced by hairstylists, while upholding the highest standards in health and safety.
Curls Are Power
Did you know an estimated 65% of the global population have wavy, curly or coily hair? Yet education and experience with textured hair is not required to pass most state licensing exams. Sign the petition today to make change in your state.
CHANGE IS HAPPENING
We are proud to share that in Nov 2023, New York State passed a bill requiring Cosmetology State Board licensing to include training, education and testing on all hair types and textures. This monumental moment for inclusive beauty in New York has been championed by The Professional Beauty Association in conjunction with its Texture Education Collective.
