I won’t go back

magan|July 9, 2020

Service Received: DevaCut

Price: $76-$125

I was very excited to get my first deva cut. I went and the gal was asking me what I wanted. I was so caught off guard because she in fact is the trained deva stylist. She trimmed very little and did the wash routine. In the process telling me that my hair stylist that highlighted my hair wasn’t doing it correctly. I’ve been seeing her for 15 years. I left feeling completely ripped off and honestly like my hair and precious stylist wasn’t good enough. I will not go back.

Not sure if I would go back

To begin, I didn’t put the stylist name because the stylist I used I could not even find on the Deva website or in nearby Deva salons.. so I’m not sure if she was trained and this isn’t updated or if she wasn’t trained and claimed to be? I went to this salon for my first ever Deva cut with consultation. The initial Deva cut is $92. I have type 2 B wavy curls and wished to get a Deva cut to enhance them. I’ve watched several videos on how the process goes and what I should expect. My experience was similar. The stylist cut my hair dry, then washed with Deva products and styled with Deva products. She placed me under a warmer for maybe 10 minutes and then diffused for maybe a minute. I left with very damp hair and probably the worst hair day after leaving a salon. I will say the cut is fine. I was expecting her to take a lot off and my hair does feel healthier and the curl is somewhat better after styling again with my products and routine at home. What didn’t make me happy was that I was expecting to be taught more about my curl/hair type and how best to enhance it like I’ve seen in videos.. this I didn’t really get. I don’t feel like I got much of a consultation at all honestly. Next, I felt this process was rushed. I left in under an hour and like I said before, my hair was very damp and looked pretty bad. So was this experience worth $92? No. Maybe if it was done elsewhere and I got more out of the appointment I maybe would’ve felt it was worth it.

Worst $250 I've ever spent

Went for my first Devacut and a full highlight. The cut resembled what I only can imagine could have been accomplished with a weed wacker. I cried a lot and wore my hair in a lopsided ponytail for months until I could have it straightened out. Also when I highlight, I always need a toner. Master hairstylist badmouthed my previous stylist, saying that she wasn't highlighting my hair properly if she needed to use toner. Low and behold I had to return 3 days later to have a toner applied because my roots were orange. The same stylist couldn't be bothered with fixing her screw up so another stylist fixed it. Devastating and expensive experience.
