Stylists at this salon
African Americans will be turned away and treated unfairly
To sum it up in a nutshell I was turned away and they made an excuse that my stylist is with another client when I clearly made a appointment this morning and explained that I was going to be traveling 2 hours away and i am a black girl and I did not have room for trial and error was my exact words to the girl that answered the phone because i wanted to make sure there was a stylist that could give me the results i was looking for in a devacut. I got stuck in traffic and was told it was OK to arrive at 3:30 today in which I walked in at 3:30 to be exact the stylist did not even come talk to me, I could tell the way all the workers came to the front and which by the way everyone in this salon is white, which I don't care, cause my husband is white, they looked at my very tightly coiled strands (zigzag curls) like yea right what is she doing here. I'm making complaint to the bbb and will not stop there. I pretty much plead for someone to at least give me a trim I came in for a Devacut they refused said Noone could. Mind you I traveled far away and was stuck in traffic for pretty much the whole time noone there cared they offered me 50% off to reschedule for next week (no way hoeza)! I would like to see this complaint go all the way up to lorraine Massey letting her know how unfairly her client is getting treated being this was the the only close devacurl stylist in this area for a devacut. Eric kelly number is not correct on this site was told when called several times wrong number and lastly they lied to me over the phone when I made appointment claiming to be advanced stylist and according to devacurl site they are at the inspired level. Just don't lie! Horrible experience just don't want ANY one else to have to go through this. Not trying to ramble OR VENT just trying to get the word out. If nothing more, this place needs to be watched very closely for descrimiation
Deva Cut Review
So, being all natural with several different curl patterns, I wanted the Deva Cut to give my hair a great shape and I needed a trim anyway. I called to schedule the appointment clearly explaining my hair type and needs. I was told Jennifer was available and is certified in deva cut styling. I was nervous being that I am black and my hair is completely different than the clientele they normally serve, but I trusted the process. I arrived, was greeted and given a tour of the salon which is very clean, spacious, and comfortable. Jennifer was available promptly for my appointment time which was great. So, the process. It turns out, Jennifer isn't "certified" but instead went through a day long training with a stylist from NY. She explained she would have to travel there for a few days to become actually certified and that currently, she is an "inspired stylist". She did comb through my curls with her fingers to detangle and cut which ruined the curl pattern and gave me a fro before washing. This is different than what I've researched for deva cuts. I've read the curls are not to be manipulated. She did, however, take her time and was very thorough with the trim (turns out my shape was fine and just needed a trim rather than a cut). She washed, conditioned, and applied the defining gel and I sat under the dryer. I was still a little damp when I got up and she trimmed a little more and scrunched the hair a bit. It did look more tamed which I appreciated. Bottom line.... It wasn't a bad experience, but I wasn't impressed. I paid $85 (including 20% tip) for a trim and wash basically. Jennifer was very patient and kind, but I could tell she wasn't used to my type of hair. I just wasn't impressed and I expected to be impressed especially for the price. Basically, I wouldn't recommend this place to ladies with African American hair types. Take the trip to New Orleans and see a sister :)
Very courteous and attentive
I love how the salon is very clean and how they cater to you. My stylist Justin is very kind and cared for my hair, as well as give me good insight on the kind of cut that would compliment my 3a curls. I left the salon very satisfied!
I saw Justin. He explained how someone came in for a day and showed them how to do Deva Cuts. I did not like the cut and went back to Justin about a week later to try and fix it. Even worse. Been letting it grow out for about 6 months now.
