My 3B Curls are gone
I have been a curly girl my entire life. I discovered the curly girl method through Lorraine Massey's handbook and DVD. For the past 8 years, I have only trusted the Devacut method for my 3B curls. This was no problem in Chicago, because I knew and trusted two Devacut stylists. I always left the salon feeling empowered and beautiful. After moving to San Antonio last year, I continued to make trips to Chicago for regular Devacuts (that's how amazing Barbara & Barbara in Logan Square is). However, after using the stylist search through the Deva Curl website, I found R. Salon & Studio in San Antonio. I wish I never had, because my 3B curls are gone! Seriously, I have no more curls on my head. I cried for three days, because there is nothing I can do or say to remedy this issue. My hair is left in a very masculine puff on top with no well formed ringlets, the back and sides are cut way too short, and my natural part is nonexistent. There is no excuse for this, other than Regina is not qualified to cut short curly hair. I took a photo of what my hair should have looked like in the back, sides, top, and front. I am so disappointed...this is the worst haircut/devacut I have ever had. To top it off I called to speak with Regina, and it took her 4 days to return my call. I will never return to this salon.
Several visits, happy each time, and always tries out some new product if my regime isn't quite working.
For the longest time Regina was the only Deva inspired stylist in the area. I began visiting her salon two or three years ago when I came to SA to visit family. I HATE having a new stylist cut my curly hair because I have had SO many horrorifying cuts. Regina's cuts, from the beginning, have always been on point and AMAZING. In fact, I love the shape Regina gives my hair that I have been half tempted to skip the wash and rock the frizz-fro because the shape is THAT amazing. I have been continually happy with Regina'S cuts. She's always tried her best to work me in her schedule conveniently and I have never had to wait more than 24 hours on her to return a call. She's very communicative about what she'S doing and what products she chose, why, and how to use them. My ONLY complaint about her services have been the price. Somewhere between $70 and $80 for a cut and style, it's a pricey cut. BUT Regina is the highest trained Deva stylist in the area and expressed to me that she is going for her next level training at the end of this year. If I was looking for a roofing expert, I certainly wouldn't mind shelling out the extra cash, so I shell out the extra cash for Regina. I sure don't want the cut $20 would get me at Super Cuts. Plus, my cuts have always grown out great and even, so I only get cut twice a year or so. I definitely think you should give Regina a try. Be open and let her know what you want your hair to do for you. It's worked for me.
My best DevaCut
I've had Devacuts with 4 different stylists (including some in NYC) and Regina has been by far the best. She left my curls looking so amazing and full of volume. Every time I go to a new stylist I try to recreate what she did with no luck! Great job!
Decent cut, but not a true Deva Cut
My first Deva Cut was at the original Devachan salon in NYC. Since then I have been to five other deva stylists. Regina rates in the lower half of those stylists (though certainly not the worst of them). She gave me a few decent cuts, though I am not sure they were uniquely Deva Cuts. She followed the method in part, but not entirely. I started going to her when she was new to the method and it was clear that she was not very experienced. After a few disappointing cuts without much shape or definition, I decided not to keep going back. I think she may have more training and experience at this point, but it was not worth her high price to go back and find out.
I had an awesome experience with Regina. Its funny how those complaints all sound the same
Always Feel my best when Regina does my hair. Love it Love it
Best in the biz!
I will never let anyone but Regina touch my hair. Her Deva cuts are great! She is also awesome at coloring and highlighting as well. She is very knowledgable about curly hair and all the DevaCurl products.
Doesnt know how to cut curly hair
Brought in picture of a deva short haircut, omg, I had a wedding and baptism to attend. I was so horrified! What an ugly cut, flat top, the sides stick out, like a clown's wig!
Does she know how to do a Deva cut???
I went to Regina for my first ever Deva cut a few months ago. I really didn't know what to expect and left with just my ends trimmed and a wet head of hair. Since I didn't know any better, I assumed it was just the Deva way. Fast forward a few months and I had the opportunity to sit with another stylist while out of town. The new stylist explained every step of the way and when she got towards the end of the cut began to perform a step I did not see Regina do. She explained this was one of the most important parts of a Deva cut and would make make hair more manageable and define my curls. When I told her Regina had never done this she asked if I was sure I got a Deva cut. She also made sure my hair was dry after the initial cut and shampoo and continued to fine tune my style once my hair was dried again. Now I have never been to a proper Devachan salon so I don't know what a proper Deva looks like but I will say that my hair is now more manageable, my curls are beautifully defined and don't get tangled the way they used to prior and following my cut with Regina. So, this has me wondering if Regina is actually providing Deva cuts. Needless to say, I feel fooled by Regina and won't be back.
I haven't even gotten to be chance to get a cut from Regina because it's been 4 days and no return phone call. I guess I'm still on the hunt
Best cut I've ever had by far! Regina did a superb job at explaining what I would need to do to enhance my curls too. Thank you!
