Not impressed

Katie|July 23, 2019

I tried a DevaCut for the first time here. I saw the level one stylist who has done my last two regular wet cuts, but I opted for the DevaCut this time, at her suggestion and out of my own curiosity. The shape of the haircut is okay, but I don’t see a difference between this and the cuts I had before. When I got home, I discovered one random curl around my face that was longer than all the rest and needed to be trimmed. I was disappointed that a curl cream with silicones, wax, and drying alcohols was used to style it. I understand that DevaCurl products are typically used for DeveCuts, but I explained that my hair doesn’t like them so she tried something else. She always tells me creams will be good for my hair even though I’ve told her that I prefer gels. She used the cream and my hair felt sticky and clumpy. Maybe level one training doesn’t cover which ingredients to stay away from? I know I could’ve asked to see the ingredients or brought my own gel, but I decided to just go with it, and I clarified when I got home. Then my curls were pulled apart while being diffused with heat. The diffuser was moved while the dryer was on, which made major frizz. Frizz combined with the sticky cream meant that I left looking like a mess and didn’t really know how my cut turned out until I washed and styled my hair at home the next day. I wasn’t going to leave a bad review because it felt mean, but I just got a cut at a salon that specializes in curly hair and it was an amazing experience, which made me realize how lacking my experience at Salon Beau was.

VERY, VERY SAD!

Service Received: Super Curly DevaCut

Price: $76-$125

Let me start off by saying I have 3c/4a hair, very curly with shrinkage. This was my first "deva cut", I knew what I wanted and how it had to be done, I am not a beginner when it comes to dealing with natural kinky curly hair, I have been natural since 2010 ( I know what products to use, I know my hair type, porosity type, how to style it, etc). I know my ends were ugly and my hair needed a little bit of shape. I arrived with my hair already washed with no product on it, as it is supposed to be in its natural state! even though I knew I needed my ends to be cleaned out a little bit, I TOLD THE STYLIST I WANTED TO KEEP MOST OF MY LENGTH BECAUSE OF SHRINKAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I showed pictures of what I wanted and I ended up getting something completely different, I am very disappointed. What I ended up getting was not a deva cut, the back part of my hair is shorter than the front, since my hair shrinks so much I ended up having long uneven strands of hair in the back, my hair was very frizzy. I had to rewash at home and even out my hair a little bit. Now I have short hair I don't even like and I have to wait for it to grow a little bit more so that I can fix it. For you guys to have an idea of how short my hair is now, before I had it reaching under my breast and now the front reaches shoulder length and the back reaches lower neck. So I am very frustrated and upset, I honestly think no stylist with level 1 training should be able to touch from 3a hair to 4c hair. Level one is just basic training, not enough to deal with our type of hair. I will not be coming back to this hair salon unless I see further training is done and I see clients with my actual hair type on their instagram posts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Disappointing Experience

Service Received: DevaCut

Price: $76-$125

Went here for my first ever Deva cut. I was told by a friend that it's an educational experience and they take you through a whole process and teach you how to use each product. I was extremely disappointment when I left the salon with not only sopping wet curls, but no idea of what to do with the products I had just bought. While the cut was fine, I don't recommend coming here for your first Deva cut.
