Deva Cut is the best
I booked an appointment for my first Deva Cut with Scarlet. She took the time to explain step by step what she was doing and why. Helped me get rid of the dreaded "triangle"! Love the shape and style! I will be back!
Not the real deal, but still decent
At first I thought that my stylist Scarlet may not have been Deva trained (she's not listed above), but she mentioned the class and knew the cleansing and styling method. But instead of cutting curl by curl, she cut my hair in sections which she fingercombed and pulled taut first. Considering I lose curl definition easily, it seemed to defeat the purpose of cutting dry. And she cut my not-so-curly underlayer wet before styling. She did tweak the cut by trimming a few curls individually after styling. But honestly she did get more volume and curl definition than I do at home and after I restyled my hair, I really did like the cut and the layering. I saw 5 other stylists combing and cutting curly hair wet, 2 of which straightened the hair and then used a curling iron to style it. Maybe that's what their customers want, but for a salon where seemingly the entire staff is Deva trained, it made me cringe. When I booked, I specifically asked for someone trained knowing a dozen are listed above. But the receptionist said Scarlet is the one that typically works with curly hair. The whole experience struck me as they know the method and the products, but none of them want to spend the time it takes to cut curl by curl (it took 2 hours as is with my fine, collarbone length hair). I would go back to Scarlet, but if you want the tried and true Deva experience, this salon isn't for you.
Stylist did not seem to be trained in the DevaCut technique
I went to J.R.'s for the first to for a DevaCut. The stylist did not seem to be trained well. She did cut my hair dry but she just pulled out sections and cut. She did not cut curl by curl. I had requested that my hair be at least below my collar bone when she was finished but it turned out to be at least 2 inches above it.
