DevaCut Failure but great with product recommendations
Starresha is very personable. Her boutique shop caters to her personal style in music. I expected a relaxing environment, but that wasn’t the case. I will also positively say that she can definitely recommend the best DEVA products based on your hair type. However, she can not execute the DevaCut. My hair is horribly uneven. The best I can do is allow my hair to grow out and then evenly cut it in a few months. My best advice just go to her for the product recommendations.
Star understands and styles type 4 hair very well. However, her attitude, customer service and professionalism negates that entirely. I was a long-time client of Star’s. Her customer service was not great from the first time I met her, but I figured she was young and still learning. From the first appointment, she proceeded to blast her former employer (another DevaCurl salon in Chicago), but I still continued to see her. I even referred business to her including free products from a popular haircare line and two good friends of mine. One friend decided not to see Star because of the attitude she got over the phone. I still kept her as my stylist, despite that. She then sent a rude email to all her clients this year telling them about her new booking policy, then quickly sent a follow-up email apologizing for her tone. The final straw was when I had an important event and tried to book her. I let her know about the event six weeks in advance and she said to book my appointment two weeks before. Well she ended up being booked that weekend and did not try to squeeze me in or communicate with me about how to get my hair styled. I ended up booking for another day, and even then, after reserving the date with my credit card, I got an automated response that she was unavailable at the time I booked. I texted and replied to the email to inquire about what happened. No response. I called and left a message the next day. No response. I finally DM’d her and left my number for her to call me and resolve any miscommunication. She proceeded to tell me DM’ing is unprofessional, Sunday’s are her workout days, she can’t be bothered on the weekends and that the friends I referred to her and the free products she got through my referral were because I valued her as my stylist. She said she never asked for my help. She then said I owed her an apology for judging her. She kept referring to negativity and the whole time I was thinking that she is making a simple situation that could be resolved with a phone call, into drawn out drama. I literally got chills reading her messages and wondered if she had a personality disorder. Long-story short, she said she no longer wanted to be my stylist and wished me the best of luck. That was after I told her I found someone to do my hair for the event, but was still open to her styling my hair at a later date. Save yourself the drama and find a stylist who has the maturity and foresight to communicate with clients and also retain them for future business.
Starr was amazing she was so personal and friendly! I went in for a DevaCut She taught me soo much about my hair and its porosity which I knew nothing about. She helped me as far as product recommendations. I had been using the stereotypical "natural" product which are not actually natural at all. I've tossed all my hair butters and I have been working on more deep conditioning and moisturizing. It has been just two weeks since I got my haircut and I love my curls! I still have a long way to go before my hair is healthy but will definitely be seeing Star again!
Result is trash
I wanted to get a deva cut and she was one of the only ones who offered it in my area. I checked out her Instagram and saw she had done some really good work on other girls. When the appointment came I told her that I wanted to keep my length and I showed her a picture of what I wanted my hair like. The picture, to say the least, had a woman with full long hair which was achievable since my hair was thick and had some length. She gets to cutting and I notice she's cutting a little much. I told her about the length and she said that it will look longer than before when she's done, a lie. The shape up looked nice and thick but I forgot that hair shrinks. When I got from under the drier and she shook it my hair, I noticed how much she cut. I told her I didn't like it and that she cut too much off but she seemed unwilling to comprimse on a solution to my unsatifaction as she replied that my hair was "thin", a lie, and that I have too much damage to get the look I want, another lie. And even if it was true why wouldn't you tell me that before you started cutting? I don't recommend her, she has a poor talent for customer service and is unwilling to comprimse with clients and belives it is their fault when they are unsatisfied.
She's one of the best out here!!!
Starresha is the best! I haven't been to her new salon yet but I used to always go to the curls n company salon she used to work! She is amazing! She also helped me through my "starting curly process!" She gave me so many tips and advice each time I went! She always took time helping me find the right color and pintura highlights I wanted! I always walked out very contented with her work! I'm yet to visit her salon and can't wait because nobody else will touch these curls the way she do!
TRANSFORMED MY CURLS
Starresha is Awesome! She transformed my curls and taught me how to use my Deva Curl products properly.
Star is Amazing.
First off let me say that Starresha is amazing person. I went natural in December of 2013 and needless having perms my life I didn't know the first thing about caring for my hair properly. I came to see her at all a salon she was working at. She did a full consultation reaching me about my hair and showing the ropes. She really room the time to teach me and encourage me or how to care for my transitioning hair as I did not a do a big chop. In the years since I visit every few months and keep my curls popping and my ends cut and the growth of my hair is amazing. I have been perm free for about two years. It has grown so fast and to be fully without a perm 18 months into going natural was amazing. I recently visyed her and February for color and cut. I have been so nervous about dying my hair RED forever but Star blessed my head one again and had me feeling fabulous. I love her and I am so proud she has her own shop. #BlackQueens doing great things. #SupportandGratitude I'll be to see you soon. Tha k you for all that you do.
LOVE MY CURLS! LOVE HER!
I first visited in December and fell in lob with her as a person and the way she takes care of my hair! Starr is always professional, smiling, she has thee best tips! She will answer my questions via text regarding "which products did you tell me to use again?" I have an appointment every month to make sure my curls stay poppin'! I have recommended her to people I know, as well as people when I am out and about. She colored my hair and everyone compliments me. I pass out her cards because everyone deserves to have their curls blessed by The CurlWhisperer.
I went to this shop on May 6, 2017, I was referred by a friend. I went for a Deva Curl, Ive been natural for the last 5 years and have a very good understanding of how to care for my own hair, I only go to the shop to get trims on a regular, I went to her because my hair was growing and I wanted to use the devacurl method, needed to know how to style my hair using devacurl products, When I went I showed her how I styled my hair in the wash, rod sets and I also showed her it straight. she stated that when you come to her, your hair must be dry and in its natural state, no products, so my hair was in a big afro, when its like that its hard to tell how long it is, but you can definitely tell it has length, Im sure any stylist would notice it had to be long she started cutting my hair. She started cutting it, I told her I didn't want all my hair cut, she said she was only cutting an inch, I was cool with that, she stated that around the nap of my neck was damage and she was going to cut it, ok, I told her I had faux locs, so it may have caused the damage, she said it was a little more damage in the back, and she was going to cut it, ok,,,, now heres the problem, I told her over and over I didn't want all my hair cut, so if she throught that it was that much damage, why cut it before letting me see it, My hair was not messed up before I went there, besides the back of my neck,,,,, show me the damage, before you cut it, she didn't . So after she washed it, and it was in its curly state, I didn't notice how much of my hair she cut, when a persons hair is in its curly state, because of the shrinkage its hard to tell how much has been cut, so I didn't notice it, I noticed how much she cut once I washed it a few days later, I called her and said that she cut way more than what was to be expected, she never said anything, I asked her what was I suppose to put on it first, because I was trying to figure it out, I said the cream and she said gel,,, I told her again that I didn't realize how much she cut, she said nothing, I told her that was all I wanted to say, SHE hung up, without saying anything besides the word Gel. The next day I sent her a picture to show her how much of my hair she cut, she said I need to condition it and restyle it, I stated I wanted her to see the length she cut it too.. she got defensive saying she told me about it was damaged and was going to cut it,,,, when your cutting someones hair, I would think, if you know more than an inch or two had to be cut, you tell and show them how much needs to be cut, so there won't be problem , she did. neither, She stated that I exaggerated on how long my hair was, everyone who knows me, knows I take care of my hair, my hair has always been healthy and long she also felt the need to say how many clients she have and how great she is , instead of apologizing for the misunderstanding, or apologizing for my bad experience maybe saying come back in, let me see what you talking about, did not try to rectify the situation at all , she blamed it on me, and THATS WHY I AM WRITING THIS REVIEW, ITS HAIR, IT WILL GROW BACK, BUT DON'T MAKE IT SEEM LIKE I DID SOMETHING WRONG, BECAUSE I KNOW FOR A FACT I DID NOT DO ANYTHING WRONG, SHE MESSED UP MY HAIR AND INSTEAD OF OWNING UP TO IT, SHE TRIED TO PUSH IT OFF ON ME.
If you want an education about your hair go see Starr! I never knew my hair could look so good! She will answer every question and guide you on a journey to beautiful curly hair. Thanks Starr!
She's one of a kind! Please let her train your curls.
Starresha make me feel like a queen the way she pampers me from beginning to end. She will be your hair's new best friend. I drive about 45 minutes once a month just to let educate me on my tresses. She has my hair growing like a weed. I cant wait to go back. My hair has never soft and my curls are so defined. She has a lifelong customer.
DevaCut was magical.
Visited the Curl Whisperer Chicago for a DevaCut and style. I loved it! Star was wonderful-she patiently explained what she was doing, why she was doing and the products used. She has the magic touch! I will certainly see her again.
