Nicole was nice. As someone who has received Devacuts for over a decade, it was clear that she had not been through a ton of training. She finger-combed my curls during the dry cut, and did not cut the curls individually. She did an OK job styling, but didn’t dry me thoroughly and did not adjust the cut after styling. She did a pretty job with my color. I’m not unhappy, but probably won’t be back.

She does NOT know what a DevaCurl haircut is!

This lady was so unprofessional. I never write reviews but I had to for this - at least to save someone else from having the same experience. She had not cleaned the station from the the haircut before mine and spent two minutes blow drying the hair on the ground into the center of the room while I stood there and watched. She verified that I just wanted a normal DevaCurl haircut. She asked me what I was looking for. I specified what length I wanted it to be at but said that she could do what she thought looked good and that I was willing to try something new. She then rudely told me "No you\'re not. You just told me you\'re not." I should have said something but I just sat there in silence after that. She them went on to finger comb through my curls. With fine hair, that ruined them and led me to have a frizzy-looking triangle head of hair (flashback to middle school). She proceeded to cut my hair as though it were straight, wetting it down and puling out the rest of the curls she had not already destroyed. She would pull my hair straight and then cut several locks at an angle at once. She finished it off my using styling cream to flatten out any waves or body that I had on top of my head. I was pissed. I drove over an hour to get my hair cut by someone who knew how to cut curly hair and who had DevaCurl training. I was so upset and disappointed.

At first I was happy to find a stylist who knew more about naturally curly hair than most stylists. But I was quickly disappointed. During my first visit Virginia told me I would look "better" with short hair. I prefer my curls to hang just above my shoulders. Lo and behold, any time I asked for any length off, I\'d lose inches. If I said to take 1 inch max off, I\'d leave 3-4 inches shorter. She also kept chopping my face framing layers into ridiculous wedges that stick out from the side of my head, and in general never blended layers well. After two cuts leaving me with hair only to the nape of my neck, I\'m done. Virginia also always worked on at least one other person during my appointment, leaving me sitting for 15-20 minutes at a time for no reason. (I only every had cuts, no stylings or treatments.) Not professional.

I\'ve done okay by my hair, but recently have been working to improve. I heard about Deva Cuts and, with family pictures coming up at a reunion this weekend, scrambled to see if I could get an appointment. Mary had time and I was booked for my first Deva Cut! Mary was fabulous! Friendly, sweet and easy to talk to, she confirmed that my current basic routine was on track and really listened to what my needs were. I wear my hair up for work (I\'m often working outside), I want to keep my routine as simple as possible but I want to be able to wear my hair down from time to time. She talked over what she planned to do and asked where my ponytail usually sat. As she cut, she made sure that the shortest layer was several inches longer than that, so it would pull back easily. She washed and conditioned my hair, explaining more about the technique than the product (though she gave me that info, too, of course), as I had told her I was content with my current shampoo/conditioner. When it came to styling, she used a single product--Deva Curl Ultra Defining Gel--and showed me how to massage my scalp to boost volume without destroying the curl definition. I walked out with the best looking hair cut I\'ve ever gotten, confident that I can keep it looking good whether up for work or down for fun. So, so happy!
