I went on May 23rd,2019 to get a deva cut and Highlights, My stylist was Olivia, I told her I wanted to get light brown Pintura Highlights. and I showed her a few pictures of what had in mind. I don\'t think she even knew what the pintura technique was. she started taking large chunks of my hair and applying the highlight to them like regular highlight. and I ended up with this tacky brassy color, it didn\'t even look like highlight, it looked like she colored my whole head. and when I expressed that I didn\'t like it and that this is not what i wanted. she had me come back to fix it. today I went back and what she did was she put a toner on my hair and actually colored the highlighted parts so close my natural hair color that you can not see any highlights unless you look really hard for them. so my hair looks exactly the same, only now I miss 240 dollars. She is not even good at styling curly hair, she style my hair only with the ultra defining gel, but the time I drove home my hair lacked was not very poofy, frizzy and had no definition.

I don\'t know about the other stylists, but the owner, Evan is completely unprofessional. I\'ve been around the block a time or two and have dealt with all types of people, but he was so condescending and rude that I walked out. I will be contacting DevaCurl for sure.

Service Received: DevaCut

Cheyenne has cut my hair twice now and I am serious I don\'t want anyone else to cut my hair ever again! She fixed an awful cut that I got that ruined my curls, it was seriously a night and day difference! Even though I had started my curly hair journey by doing tons of research, I still learned a ton of stuff while they styled my hair, helped with product recommendations, how much to use for my fine hair, etc etc. My hair looks the best it\'s ever looked! Everyone is always so nice and welcoming and friendly when I go here! I\'m moving in May but honestly I\'m planning on traveling back to Columbus to still go to this salon.

A little about me I have super curly biracial hair. My hair straightened, is to my butt but when it is curly it shrinks up to a little pass my shoulders. I’ve been caring for my natural hair all of my life. I was happy to hear that Columbus has a curly hair salon. I really wanted to treat myself by getting my hair washed and styled but without a cut. When I looked online I couldn’t figure out what to get by the descriptions, so I called and got Jason on the phone. I explained to Jason that my hair is very curly and it very long making it a bit harder to deal with and asked for his advice on type of service, and choosing a suitable stylist since I only wanted a wash and style. Jason told me that all the stylists there were equally qualified to do my type of hair, and that I could get the Express Service to fit my needs and leave with my hair wet so I can go back to work. He would be the one to do my hair. Fast forward to the service- I had to wait quite a bit to get my hair started, which I figured was expected with a curly hair salon. Jason apologized and got started on my hair, he told me that they wouldn’t do an in depth consultation because I was just getting an express service, to which I replied; “but you will tell me if something is wrong with my hair right?” Jason answered with a yea of course, sorry I made it seem worse than what it is, we will give you some pointers if we see anything. During the service he keeps telling me what I was doing wrong things to my hair that I’m using the wrong products, the products I use are too heavy and that I would need a harsh shampoo to wash all of it out and that is damaging for my hair. (I only use a light leave in from the Shea Moisture line, and just been recently experimenting with oils). That I need to stop using a comb because I cause more breakage by combing from root and dragging the knots down. I comb my hair from the tips up, and he finger combed my hair from the root down and was snapping my hair where it was knotted. I could hear the snaps at the ends of my hair and see my hair in his fingers and all over the floor. This was obviously more breakage and hair loss than normal. However, I just let it be because I’ve had worse stylists who managed my hair terribly, and like a dummy I didn’t want to offend him. I wanted to just have an open mind about everything. I was just happy that I didn’t get a headache like a have in past by other stylist who pulled my hair out from the root with combs. And besides, I have tons of hair so one session of this isn’t going to make a big deal. The last comment was about my ends looking frizzy while he had my head in the shampoo bowl, and it was because my ends were super tangles since he was finger combing from the root to tip and not doing a good job by removing the shed hair through the strands, just snapping where there was a tangle. Jason did say some nice things as well, he said my hair was beautiful and long and that he can tell that I take really good care of it and that it would be even better with some tweaks to products and finger combing. So when my hair was styled he recommended their products since Shea Mosture is a terrible line according to them. I was hesitant because I wasn’t sure how my hair was going to turn out when it was dry, since there was white stuff all over it. Jason assured me that it will look how it is, but without the white residue. I bought the products since I thought maybe he is right and that these products would be a step up. When I got home and my hair dried, it looked and felt terrible. There was white stuff and it was stiff with flakes flying everywhere. My hair felt very waxy. So I called the salon, but got no answer. I had to drive back to the salon to speak to someone the next day to return the products and Jason was there, he said there was an issue because I left the salon and he couldn’t fix it when it dried. He admitted to putting too much product in my hair to clump my curls. This would be reasonable to me if he didn’t tell me that it would be fine for me to leave, if this is a thing wouldn’t it be reasonable to tell the customer they can’t leave on their first visit with their hair still wet? Also, my thing is if it doesn’t work after you put the correct amount and you feel like you have to put so much more, the product may not be good for that client’s hair. You cannot over compensate for something not working, by applying a ton more. He also asked me if I liked the curl definition and I just said no that my hair looks better when I use my products at home and he was a bit taken aback by it. Fast forward, it looked like my bank only counted one hair product that I purchased back as a refund, so I called the salon again, no answer again. I went to the salon and this time talked to owner and I went over the story of why I returned the product and that I don’t see my entire refund. The salon owner kept making excuses for the service, when all I wanted was my refund. First he said I got more service than I paid for, and that I need to read the description next time online before choosing a service. That would make sense, IF I didn’t call and get a recommendation from them! I didn’t just make up a service. Then he said I needed a more experienced stylist someone who will put treatments in my hair and cut where necessary. This would also be reasonable IF Jason didn’t tell me all of the stylist there was equally qualified to do my hair type and I don’t want strangers to cut my hair so that is not an option for me. I need to know if they can even do my hair first before they use scissors. Then, he said my hair was heat damaged and that I don’t wear it natural and wear it in mostly twist outs which also causes “some issues”. At this point, I just said thank you and stopped going back and forth with this guy, since it was obvious that he was making things up. I don’t have any heat damage in my hair, I flat iron my hair once a year and probably less than that. My hair has the same curl root to tip and is very soft and full. AND I don’t mostly wear twists and there is no way he could know what I do to my hair. I was wearing twists during this conversation and he only saw me twice in my entire life. The people in this salon are very unprofessional and outright judgmental. I was surprised because I didn’t think the owner of a business would be so unprofessional by blaming their customers for things that are caused by their poor judgment. I will never go here again.
