I started following the Curly Girl method about 3 weeks ago and had super long and thick hair and decided to try a Diva cut. I am super paranoid about my hair as I have had bad haircuts in the past. After much research I decided to book with Kathy based on her experience and reviews. Kathy was punctual and polite. She took her time explaining what she was doing and why. Granted, I had already researched and been following the CG method so most of it I already knew. She used Diva Products and commented about what they do while using them but the sales pitch wasn't hard like I was expecting. Unfortunately, my hair HATED the diva products and felt dry, stiff and super "product-y" after the styling. I left a little discouraged but after getting home and rewashing following my routine with my products I love the cut. My curls look and feel fabulous! My advice is wait until you wash and follow your own routine if you don't like the way it looks or feels leaving the salon. I am sure Diva products work great for some but definitely not for me! I will book again with Kathy but will bring my own products for her to use as my hair knows what it likes.
After researching the deva method for a year, considering a cut for 6 months, and stalking Kathy's reviews for 2 months - I finally decided to go in for a consultation. After getting a great feeling from the consultation, I made an appointment for a cut and my only regret is NOT SCHEDULING THE CUT SOONER!! I'm an African-American woman with tight curls and I wasn't sure if this cut/this stylist/these products would work for me. But I haven't stopped smiling and raving about my experience since leaving the salon. I've been on a roller coaster journey with my hair for the past few years and it took me a while to gain the confidence to embrace my natural curls. I'm confident in my curls now and my appointment with Kathy elevated that even more. She's extremely knowledgeable about hair and caring for curls and didn't hesitate to share her knowledge with me. I'll be going back in 3 months and I can't wait to see how my curls continue to flourish.
I went to Muse Salon for the second time for my second devacut. I had Chrissy and she is a perfectionist! I’m really happy with the new shape of my hair and the new color. I saw many girls come through there and their hair also looked amazing, done by the other stylist in the salon. The stylist are good at matching your desired look. The salon is beautiful and they really know how to make you feel comfortable.
A couple years ago my sister told me about this cut and I was very leary because I have a lot of hair and nobody ever cuts it right. I finally gave in because my sister promised Kathy would not butcher my hair and I couldn't be more pleased! She made sure I understood the way things worked and it turned out amazing! I highly recommend it! My cheeks still hurt from smiling!
I love the Deva curl products. I had never heard of them so I was nervous about trying them but it works. Chrissy really knows her stuff and explained everything she did and why. She told me how to do it all myself and what products to use. My curls are so defined now. You should definitely try it black white or mixed you will love it!
I had 2 appointments here. 1st for a dry curly haired cut, which was a disappointment shape wise. I had a hard time styling my hair after because the cut seemed to split my curls into frizzy tufts. 2nd appointment was a full blown disaster though. I had requested pintera coloring only to receive foiled highlights & was put under a hot dryer and forgotten. It took 4 HOURS! My hair was absolutely RUINED and I can't say enough about how big of a mistake it was to try this place.
I've had 2 excellent cut/colors here, but trying to reschedule a third appointment is a nightmare because I cannot get through to them! They weren't answering calls Tuesday and my call wasn't returned until Wednesday. The receptionist hung up on me a few times when I managed to call today. My normal stylist had become booked up so I tried to get in with another. The receptionist stated she wouldn't put me with another stylist after I told her I preferred one over another! I hung up rather than deal with her, but did call back & ask for a manager. She started excusing her hanging up on my calls and wouldn't stop, it was insane. Do I left my info & said they've lost my business. Now I have to find another new salon. And it's compketwly due to an incompetent receptionist. It's too bad. But I have to be able to get through without calling a half dozen times!
I'm so excited to have found Kathy a few years ago.She has been taking care of my curls for 2 years and they have never looked better,I have been able to grow my hair for the first time in my life, the compliments just keep coming,I follow what she taught me and keeps teaching me with every visit and I love the results. Sometimes when we try a new method on our curls it can be hard to change but I'm so glad I listened and followed her advise. This salon is so curl focused I always feel like I was in the right place. Wouldn't change a thing.
I got my hair done in may and couldn't be more thrilled with the results. Kathy took the time Togo over products with me and why she thought they were Bess with my hair type. Explained that my hair will need time to adjust and have patience. I asked her to add in layers but try and preserve as much length as possible and she did just that! I have been using the deva line since my appointment and I'm not a huge fan of the gel I do love the delight line for conditioner and low poo! I will be coming back for another trim and highlights!
My first Deva cut experience. Love my cut and style by Katt. My curls never looked better. Stylist are down to earth and kind. Katt is so friendly and educated me on what products to use and how to use them! So happy to find this place! Worth the drive!
I previously wanted to try out the deva curl products but I already got some what of a trim. I made an appointment at the Muse salon in Chesapeake Virginia, it was the closes deva certified salon with an "expert" deva stylist who had taken all 3 classes. I made an appointment with her and first things first, the wait was extremely long. My appointment was for 7:15 and I got there 15 minutes early but yet was not seen till after 7:30. That is so unprofessional. She was still attending to another customer when she started on my hair. I told Kathy, the stylist, I didn't want a cut and the whole time she instited and went in about how bad my hair was but if I just let her cut it. I explained why I didn't want it cut yet she still went on about it. I realize she would have been paid more if I got a cut but that is no reason to harass a client! I did not need one nor did I want one. I was there for information and to try the product out. When I asked her what my curl type might be she replied I am on the verge of curly and super curly, then said it would be a 4a or 4b. Now I know I asked about my curl type but I have previously looked online and all of the pictures make me out to be a type 3 I just didn't know what letter. For her to tell me I'm a 4 that is very irresponsible and she should know that was not correct being the "deva expert" that she is made out to be. I do not apreciate how she did my hair. She also did not ask how I normally have my hair and parted it down the middle, I had to ask her if I'd be able to change the way it was parted when I asked her why my hair was frizzy at the top but had so much of the deva fell towards the bottom. She replied that the products I normally use have "bad" oils but yet after I asked she put a "good" oil on my hair. She continues to explain that this product was different and didn't have oils but yet if you read some one the ingredient it does. I refuse to believe a deva set should be like this. I've heard of so many great story's and feel like this salon is not representing deva curl in the right manor. I would love for something to be done so I and other clients may go get a deva set and really be informed on you're product and cut with someone who knows what they are doing.
I've been getting my deva cuts with Kathy E. and this woman knows what she is doing! She's taught me how to better take care of my hair and how to embrace it even more. Kathy also has been supportive of the hair cut ideas I come with. From cute voluminous layers to a fun curly bob, Kathy has proved that she truly knows how to cut and style ALL curls. I highly recommend coming to her if you have curly hair in the area, you won't regret it. It's not just about the actual haircut, it's about enhancing the hair you have and being able to recreate it at home. My 3a/3b curls have never looked better, been this healthy, or grown out so beautifully.
i saw Kathy Ehler and she did a wonderful job! she educated me on products for my 3c/4a hair and helped remove some of the build up from all the products i had been using. Im not a huge fan of the gel from devacurl, but the shampoo and conditioner are great. i will continue to use those products! thank you for the education and the wonderful service! i will see you in 3 months
I don't usually write reviews but I had to let everyone know. I have had other So called Deva cuts but they don't compare to the cut and information I received from Kathy at the newly named Muse salon. My curls have never looked better. I am in love love love with my curls and have found my forever stylist. I guess that certification really means something. Please don't ever leave me Kathy.
I have what I think type 4 hair and I have been thinking about getting a deva cut for over a year so I finally decided to get one. I am one to wear twist outs and braid outs and lately my hair has been not looking good. Also my hair grows way faster in the front then in the back so I figured maybe a haircut would do it some justice. So I was skeptical because I knew that after the hair is cut they do a wash n go kind of routine on your hair and I hate wash n gos on my hair because I have extreme shrinkage, all I ever do is braid and twist outs. I did however see someone mention to not get discouraged after leaving the salon about how your hair is looking and to just go home and do your normal routine. So I got to Kathy to get my cut and she was really nice and gave me some information about taking care of my hair. So she cut a lot off at the top and I honestly did see shape when she was done. She took me over the sink and washed my hair for a decent amount of time then put a lot of the devacurl products in my hair afterwards. She then sat me under the dryer and I was currently on a lunch break so I left the shop with my hair still soaking wet. I got home later and dampened my hair a little being that it was sooo much product still in my hair and did my regular twist out. The next day my hair was flaking so bad from the residue of the devacurl products that she put in my hair so I had to rewash my hair. I again tried to do a twist out on my hair with my products and my regular routine and the next day I am still unsatisfied. My hair is just not falling in place at all I honestly just do not like the cut. I will have to get braids until my hair grows back.
I went in a little scared but I definitely left happy. I had some heat damage on my ends that I needed cleaned up and Amanda definitely took care of it. It was a little shorter than expected at first but the ease of not having to deal with those wavy/straight ends on my 3c/4a hair was definitely worth it. I was most afraid of the wash & go I knew I was going to receive as I'd never had any stylist try to style my hair naturally so I assumed I would have to go home and re-do it immediately. I was definitely wrong. It looked really good and was probably the first time I'd ever walked out a salon without feeling a need to make any adjustments. Will absolutely be returning!
Got my first Deva cut by Kathy Ehler about 6 weeks ago. She provided so much education on how to take care of my curls and did an excellent job with the cut. I have never been so happy with my hair. I have fought the curls my whole life, but have now embraced them and am loving them! Kathy was great! I highly recommend Deva products and Kathy as a stylist.
This was my first Devacut & it definitely won't be my last. I had Kathy and lets just say this is the first time in my entire life that I've walked out of a hair salon and felt good about myself! She taught me so much about my hair and the deva curl line. I didn't know that my hair even spiraled as much as it did after she was done. Also, every single staff member there was extremely friendly and it's definitely a comfortable environment. Thank you so much Kathy, see you in three months! lol :)
Had my first Deva Cut with Amanda. She cut my hair all the way up to my shoulders from elbow length. I hadn't gotten my hair cut by someone else in five years, and never got a short hair cut that I actually liked, but my Deva cut was amazing! Amanda cut my hair exactly how I wanted, and afterwards my hair was shiny, bouncy, and even curlier than usual! It was so refreshing to finally get my hair cut by someone who actually knew what she was doing!
I had my first curly girl haircut with Kathy and I couldn't be happier! I left the salon, for the first time- in my life- with dry, styled and fabulous hair!! Making an appointment was a breeze, and everyone was friendly and helpful. I have had such an easy time with my hair in the mornings since my haircut and my curls behave beautifully now! This IS the place to go.
On April 22nd, I got my first DevaCut at Rudy & Kelly Hairstylists of Battlefield Boulevard in Chesapeake, Virginia!! My stylist was Amanda, and she is truly amazing!! She prepared and comforted me for the amount of hair I would be losing (which didn't bother me). Amanda sculpted each curl, gently cleansed my scalp, easily fingered detangled my tresses, and beautifully styled my hair. She, also, explained what products she used and the amount; I found it really helpful because I did purchase products later that day. I was so pleased and can't wait to visit Amanda again!!
Went to the salon today for an appointment with Katt. I was sooo nervous, but she did not disappoint!! My cut was maybe the best I've ever had (my first Devacut)! The styling too, was perfect. Worth the drive. The whole salon was great. Felt like home for a curly girl!!
I went to the salon on February 12th to get my 2nd Deva cut/trim. Kathy did my 1st cut in October but wasn't available when I wanted to go back for a trim, so they scheduled me with Amanda. My hair looked fabulous by the time she finished!!! She did exactly what I wanted (based on a picture I showed her), and she asked ME which Deva products I preferred. I got so many compliments on my hair that I have decided Amanda will be my go to from now on!
After much research on the subject of curly hair cuts, I was finally ready to take the plunge and get my first Deva Cut. Still I was not totally sure I was ready to put my hair into the hands of another person. But as most of the reviews here reveal.... This Salon Exceeded All of My Expectations!! Katt is a gift from heaven, and my hair was totally happy in her hands. She patiently explained every step of the process and made sure I was totally happy every step of the way. She valued my input, just as much as I wanted her experienced advice. In the end she only took off what was needed, and gave me a great shape to my hair. It is well worth the 35 miles I had to travel to find her, and I will be continuing to follow up on a regular basis. If you are looking to get the best hair cut of your life or just want yo take better care of your curls.... Than This Is The Place to Go. Thanks Katt. I Love You and My New Deva Cut. (I have 4 b/c hair)
I recently had my hair cut by Kim. Finally a stylist who didn't want to straighten my curls! I have type 3a/3b curls and wanted a big change. I went from nearly waist length to shoulder length, and it looks and feels amazing. This was also my first exposure to DevaCurl products, and I can't wait to buy some for every day.
I'm an African American, woman, and I'm all natural, and heard/research Devacurl products. I haven't been too a salon, in 15 yrs. They've always cut too much of my hair...I decided to take the plunge, and Kathy, was my Devacurl Stylist....very knowledgeable, professional, and explained everything to me....friendly, nice, atmosphere, as well, as the other stylist....The receptionist, Hanna, was so, so sweet, when, I called/professional.....She explained, everything, to me, and remember, how nervous I was talking on the phone....Gosh, she gave me a hug, and I felt much better....Loving, the product/salon....and definitely, took me at 2:15 and I was there probably 40 mins. top....Oooop, my appt was on 10/3/2015 and I have another cut in 3 mths....Kathy, also, told me, my hair will grow now.... smiles and I will see results.... I will see them, definitely in 3 mths...
Had my first Deva Cut on Friday, October 2 with Kathy. I was extremely nervous but knew I needed some shape to my 4b/c coils. Kathy explained everything that she was going to do and put me at ease. My hair is a little shorter than I expected but it looks sooo much healthier!
Kathy gave my curls the love that they have always needed. I purchased the Deva products and my hair has never been happier
Kim was very knowledgeable and did an amazing job.
After a long search I found the salon for me. I learned so much about my curls ,the cut is perfect and my style is awesome I will be back
