Terrible experience—0 stars!

I went here for a devacut in early 2021. Yoshie was my stylist. I made an online reservation and confirmed that it was to be a devacut multiple times. Long story short, it was a traumatic experience and a waste of money. I would not call this a devacut in a million years. I feel bad for the stylist but people rely on this site to find devacuts and positive curly experiences. If I had known I never would have gone here. I first specified that I didn’t want to use deva products, as I react to them. Yoshie used another brand of curl products. we chatted and things were ok. I became a little alarmed when she *scrubbed* my hair while shampooing. It didn’t seem gentle. She used a normal, terry towel (not microfiber until the second or third time she washed my hair but more on that soon). She said she was taking off length first and then doing the devacut, which is not like any devacut I had before but i was like, fine, she’s the stylist, whatever. Then she used a thinning scissor on it, and also made quick cuts into my length up and down my hair (like you would do to ADD volume!). It was looking crazy frizzy and I was panicking so I asked her to stop doing that. She kind of argued that the way she was cutting it wasn’t the cause, but I can’t see how creating short ends up and down my length wouldn’t cause a halo effect. Then before or after this she shampooed my hair again once or twice (to remove the previous product because she thought my hair was getting frizzy from it, which could be). Then, it was a fuzzy mess. I asked if she could cut curl by curl and she tried to manually create ringlets by twisting super small sections of my hair. It was a total disaster. I was getting really upset and just wanted to leave before any more damage was done to my hair, so I asked if she could just charge me for a regular haircut ($50) instead of a devacut ($100). I should have not paid a penny but I just wanted to escape without a huge scene before I started crying at how horrible my hair looked. I know I could do a better deva cut myself and I’m not trained at all. This sounds dramatic but my hair really looked pretty bad for the next few days. I immediately used a conditioner wash when I got home and trimmed it myself after a few days. I asked her some questions about her training and she claimed to know everything I mentioned but it seems like it’s been too long ago for her to really know the method. I’m sure she’s great at regular hair styling, but I’m just upset that they were selling this and trying to charge for a devacut which is a very specific process and result. If you want the real deal in the Boston area, Teo at Le Petit Salon in Cambridge is legit. It’s super pricey which is why I tried this place but I learned my lesson. You get what you pay for. Learn to do it yourself or go with a really trained stylist.

amazing

I visited this salon today and saw Lauren. This was my first devacut experience and it turned out so great! She was knowledgeable about the deva curl system and technique and executed it perfectly. I'll be going back in the future.
