I got my first Deva cut with Melody in the fall of 2015. I was SO excited to learn how to manage my curls better. I have very fine, thin hair, and the curl falls out very easily. The only instruction I got before the appointment was not to use product. My hair doesn't curl unless I style it, so the "natural" hair I walked in with was fuzzy and limp with very little curl. She cut it that way in random sections, no attention to individual curls that's supposed to be a key feature of the Deva cut. I told her I do wear it straight sometimes and that my curls have highly variable moods and that I didn't want it cut longer on one side than the other which would look bad when my curls changed. She did anyway, a solid inch and a half shorter right at my face on one side than the other. It NEVER matched after the day of my cut. They tossed me back and forth between people - an intern for washing, Melody for the cut, a third person for styling, then back to Melody. No quality time, no personal attention. It felt like an assembly line in a factory. The only good thing about the whole experience was the initial training with noodling, which helps my hair form defined curls instead of fuzz. They put huge clips in my hair at the roots which lifted the curls but put huge crimps in my hair that left glaring patches of exposed scalp. They also noodled my hair into very thick curls clumps, which allowed for very few curls and emphasized how thin my hair is. Maybe Melody is great with other types of curls, but it was an absolute waste of time and money for me. When I spoke with the salon owner about my less than ideal experience, her response was "Not everyone likes a Deva set."

Soooo...after waiting for a year and a half, I have finally made the jump to get a devacut done. I am not going to lie I was scared to get it done because I have never really had my hair cut, just trimmed. I emailed KKBB and sent over inspiration pictures. What I was seeking out was to get a bang and have more body to my hair. Coming into the salon, I was soooooo excited because this cut was to inspire a new self and basically say goodbye to the old Mari and hello to the new Mari who would move to Chicago! First and foremost, when you email the inspiration pictures, let them be inspiration and done expect the same exact cut because that's what I was expecting. But let me tell you that you can put your FULL FAITH into Jayde because it's like she looked at the pictures and just began to sculpt from there. Jayde also walked me through the entire process of taking care of my hair and even wanted to educate herself on other products that I was using to ensure that I was doing right by my hair (which is what I want in a stylist)! Once everything was said and done with the process, I was in shock (NOT IN A BAD WAY), but because I couldn't believe that was myself looking back in the mirror. I wanted to cry tears of happiness because I felt like I had the cut that was meant for my face and personality! Now, don't be worried when she is done because your hair might be a little damp and she said it will take time to dry and get that body. PLEASE LISTEN TO JAYDE WHEN SHE SAYS THIS! She was sooooo right and a couple shakes with my hands to get more body and BAAMMMMM! it was like looking at a completely different person. I honestly felt like I was looking at the woman I have always wanted & hoped to be! Stylish, bold and strong is how this cut made me feel! I can't wait to see Jayde again before I move and I will come back to see her because she is THEE CURL WHISPERER! If you live in the state on Indiana, you must go see Jayde! If you are having second thoughts about getting the devacut done, please take it from me...GET IT DONE! It will be the most liberating thing you could ever do for your curls.
