After searching for months for a Deva Curl stylist and reading review after review I finally decided to take my 17 y/o daughter in to see Jessica. We use to live in VA and my daughter had been getting her hair cut there for years by a level 3 stylist that was amazing. Jessica combed out my daughter’s amazing spiral curls to a big fuzz ball, said that was how “Deva Curl does it now” (apparently she wanted me to believe it changed in 1 years time) and began cutting. When she was “finished” from behind the left side was 2 inches longer than the right side. I took my daughter home and attempted to correct as much as I could. 1 plus year later it still hasn’t grown out from the butcher job Jessica did. I’m getting ready to take her back to Virginia for a real Deva Curl cut by a true Deva Curl stylist!
I came two years back, it was my first devacut and I didn't know what to expect. My mom thought it was odd she was combing through my hair and not cutting it curl my curl. I didn't think much of it because it was my first cut. I came again about a year later (big chop, my hair wasn't damaged but I wanted a change and my curls were weighed down and had split ends.) she did the same. Comb through, not curl by curl. She also took about two inches more off than what I had asked for, cutting off about 5-7 inches, maybe more, of my hair off. I even have a video my best friend took of it. Thankfully, my grandmother lives in Miami and I was able to get a better haircut down there.
I got my hair done about a few days ago and i don’t want to waste my time with a paragraph but I have 4a hair and Jessica gave me a diva cut and I totally regret it. I thought I would be getting a fabou cut but no I was wrong. I really wish I could take back going to her
Jessica did my hair and it was my first diva cut. I have been cutting my own hair forever but wanted layers, bangs and more volume!! I didn’t trust myself to do layers. So I came here and was extremely disappointed. First of she DID NOT cut off curl by curl.i felt she was rushing my cut. And when it came to washing she did finger detangling..... just because you do finger detangling doesn’t mean it’s always right. She ripped through my hair ( She out her fingers near my scalp and pulled to my roots with force!!!)and I told her your ripping my hair she said oh no it’s ok I’m finger detangling. And I said I’m ok with combing it you don’t have to charge less and she insisted oh no it ok it ok. She was rushing and trying to get it over with. (Btw I have 3b 3c hair) And I’m pretty sure she was rushing because she had a client eating with wet hair. She slapped my styling creams on my hair and I asked her if she could diffuse my hair and she said of your hairs to long...smh..Then she cut more after she was dry. She basically did the whole cut over in my opinion. It costed my $85 and she said because she used a lot of product in my hair. The next day I did my hair and it looked as if she chipped chipped my hair. In the end I cut my hair to help the layers blend and I regret coming here.
I went in for my first devacut today after years of getting horrible hair cuts that alway removed tons of length. I went in today specifically because I was intrigued by the curl by curl cutting method. The FIRST thing I said was I don't want to take away ANY length. She suggested some layers and I said not too many, I just want a little volume up front. She proceeded to cut my hair by running her fingers through my curls– thus stretching them out– and cutting layers of hair the way you would straight hair, not curl by curl. I got a really bad haircut 7 years ago and have been growing my hair out since and not using heat so that one day It'd grow back to the length I once had and I was finally there. I went in so happy that after years of growing it out it was gonna have a better shape to it and my hair recovery journey would be over. And after almost TEN YEARS I'm back at square ONE. Just wanted to share my story so the next person can be REALLY SPECIFIC about how they want it cut (curl by curl!) because I'm absolutely devastated.
First things first, I messaged the salon on Wednesday or Thursday requesting an appointment for today. I was initially told that they couldn’t accommodate me, and when I responded that I would try again after the first of the year, was asked if I could make it in at 10 o’clock this morning. Even when I said it was OK, that I knew it was kind of last minute especially for this time of the year, they said they could take care of me. Fast forward to today. The salon is decorated beautifully. There is original artwork from local artists gracing the wall. Each of the stylists not only greeted me, that introduced themselves. It’s a small shop so everybody kind of chats a monks TD customers and staff during your service. Lee took the time to assess my curls, explained what he was going to do after asking me what my goals are. He did an excellent job with the dry cut. He then did the no-poo transformation service, and though I am fairly well-versed in caring for my curls through the curly girl method, he provided tips all the way through my service for ways that I can better achieve the look that I want. I learned several new tricks. He put me under the dryer and then finished up with the diffuser while catching a couple of spots that needed a little extra attention. I’m excited to see it tomorrow when I’ve had a chance to plop it and style it with my normal routine adding the tips he provided. My hair looks and feels amazing. It’s an hour drive for me to get to the salon, and well worth it! Can’t say enough good about Lee and the rest of the staff.
I've been there thrice, 2 for me and I also took my mother. Every time was to see Jessica to get our DevaCut. After my initial cut on my thick and tight 3C hair I knew I could take my mother. Both my mother's and my haircut were better than we expected. They flourished month after month and our shape just kept getting better and better. After six month of growing it out it was time for a trim and Jessica happily scheduled within 3 days. I know I can trust her to do anything. Thank you Jessica :)
She rushed through my session...she didn’t cut every curl & didn’t even diffuse my hair. Instead, she insisted that I sit under the dryer because my hair is way too long. She was nice but as far as my devacut experience...horrible. I walked out with very damp hair and Deva products that were all left to air dry. I would never go back again.
My hair is almost unbelievable its been transformed so quickly and beautifully by Jessica and following the DevaCurl method. It's been a week since I got my first DevaCut and I've had at LEAST five compliments every day (many from strangers) on how amazing my hair is. My hair looked good before because it was long, thick and groomed but I had been sleeping in large Velcro rollers for almost 25 years to keep my hair tamed. I almost feel like this has been a life changing experience. Jessica was very pleasant, professional and the salon was also great. I drove down to Jacksonville from Savannah because of her reviews and Level 2 Certification. Totally worth it!
I love my Deva Cut that i got by Jessica. I would definitely recommend her and this salon
I am new to the Jacksonville area and I was in dire need of a haircut. I searched on the Deva site for a stylist in the area and I came across Shampoo Cut Color Studio. I called and made an appointment for a Sunday. When I arrived (to my surprise) no one was there. I called the following week and spoke with Jaime and he was shocked at the miscommunication and urged me to come in and get my hair cut on the house! When I arrived Jaime and Lee welcomed me with open arms. Lee was the stylist certified to do the deva cut and he did an awesome job!! He was so sweet, attentive and very professional. Not only did he do a great job, the salon is so cute!! I loved the atmosphere, set up, and decor. I will definitely return and I recommend him to any curly hair cuties!! Oh FYI, I am Puerto Rican and I have a 3c curl type.
I went for my first Deva Cut on Wednesday 6/14 with Lee. I am Dominican and my hair is super curly. Before Lee, I had not found a stylist who tended to my curls with such grace the way Lee did. I was skeptical at first because my hair has never been cut without being blow dried first, or without being soaking wet and combed through. However, as soon as I walked in, Lee was very attentive and Answered all of my questions. He made me feel very secure, and I trusted him with my hair as soon as I he demonstrated that he knew what he was talking about. He catered to every curl, and showed me step by step how to take care of them. I had ordered the deva curl products online prior to speaking to LEE but he told me I bought the correct items, and he added some that I should also buy such as the no poo and One condition. I am in love with my deva cut, and I am super excited about my new hair stylist. He was amazing! I walked into work today with my Day 2 hair, and everyone complimented my hair. So far I have recommended Lee to 2 curly headed coworkers. I will continue to promote Devacut and this exquisite salon!
I've been having my cut hair using the Deva method for years and when I came to this salon to find a stylist in Jax, I was disappointed. I had my appointment with Lee and he was very nice and seemed to know what he was doing. Idk if he was having a bad day or what, but it felt like he half-assed the end of the appointment. When it was time to wash and style, he put me the hair dryer thing for about 20 min and then sat me back in the chair as asked if I diffused my curls. I said I normally don't, but when I'm paying for the service and want to examine the cut, I like to have it diffused. He then said, he prefers to have the ends "air dry" to make it appear more natural and left it at that. My fault, I should have insisted he diffuse it. I then mentioned one layer of my cut seemed too long (I like it shorter in the front and would have told him before the wash, but I assumed we would discuss it after the style when it was dry) and he just snipped one little part in the front and said that was probably just the way it was currently "falling". He couldn't fix the cut, because then he would have to dry the whole head and I could tell he didn't want to. I have NEVER have a stylist not diffuse. I ended up leaving disappointed, with flat roots and dripping ends. Won't be back.
I went to see Jessica after a disastrous Devacut and highlight experience at different salon. Jessica fixed the cut without cutting my length and she fixed the orange/red highlights to the golden highlights I wanted. She knows her stuff and she's experienced with ALL hair types, as when I was sitting there (puertorican) drying, an African-American woman with gorgeous natural curls came in for a cut as well and her results look great too.
Lee gave me a deva cut last Thursday and was extremely professional. My curls have never looked so good, lasted so long, and gotten so many compliments. He took me step by step through how he cut my hair, wash and conditioned it, and used the deva products for styling my wash and go. I am beyond pleased with my cut and so in love. This is the best cut I have ever gotten and I will be back!
Got a deva cut and pintura highlighting done today , this was my first cut so I was very nervous . I showed her the picture and she cut my hair exactly how the picture was, the highlights came out beautiful ! Went home and deep conditioned and no over processed or damage hair ! I was so happy . I love my hair . She kept my length so I'm very happy I still have it ! Defenitly go to her ! She's the only one who works on weekends ! She is a must :) thanks Jessica !
Lee is amazing! I just had my second visit with him and my curls have never looked or felt better. For the first time in my life I'm able to be worry-free about my hair no matter what the day brings!
Words simply can not express how amazing my experience was at this salon. As a mixed-race woman, I've always been iffy about people cutting my hair and people doing my hair in general. My hair is kinky curly, wild and sometimes stubborn lol. But i knew as soon as i walked in the door to this salon that i wouldn't have that feeling anymore. Lee did my hair and I'm so glad he did. He was very sweet, patient, funny and I could tell right off the bat he knew what he was doing, especially with curly hair. Lee was very informative and gentle while doing my hair. He explained everything to me about what he was doing to my hair and why he was doing it. This was my first deva cut, first curly hair cut in general and he did wonders for my curls. My hair has never been this defined, bouncy and so full of life. I had my haircut about two weeks ago and my hair still comes out amazing every time I do it(which wasn't the case before lol). I can't wait to go back in a couple months or so and let him put some highlights in. If you're looking for a place to get an amazing hair cut and have an all around good curly hair experience, this the place to go!
Look ...if you are black woman or a curly haired woman in general and are looking for someone to cut your curly or coily hair...Jessica is the one to go to. There is no one more paranoid about someone cutting their hair than me...and let me tell you that Jessica did an awesome job on my hair. This woman can cut some curly hair!!! I have nothing but good things to say about her. She was confident, took her time and was not scissor happy. I have 4a type hair. She had to reshape my hair and when she was done I looked like a diva for real! Ladies in Jax if you are looking for a top of the line, creme de la creme deva cut stylist...Jessica is the one!!! Don't hesitate, make your appointment with her now!!! She is the bomb.com!
This is my first Deva cut and shampoo and my curls look amazing. My whole life I have said I need a product that keeps my curls looking wet without being wet or crunchy. Darcy hooked me up!!!!! My curls are all in perfect little ringlets as they should be and it is styled to perfection. I love love love everything about it. Thanks, Darcy!!!
Darcy is a terrific. The haircut is as good or better than the cut I had at Devacurl in NYC. In addition, Darcy is personable and delightful.
I have had my hair done twice now, once by Darcy and once by Lee. I must say both experiences were beyond amazing. Very detailed assessment of my curls with both stylist. I would recommend both Lee and Darcy to anyone with curly hair. In fact, they even my 6 year old Keira!
I just got my Deva Cut from Lee and I love it! Jessica has been taking care of my hair, and she has always done an awesome job. However, since she is on maternity leave at the moment, I chose to give Lee a go and I am glad I did. My hair was pretty long and extremely thick and with the summer heat I wanted a substantial cut. Since it had been a while since my last Deva cut, it needed to be reshaped and I was also looking forward to getting rid of the last bit of dye. Lee listen to what I wanted and did not want in regards of length and shape. He delivered. My cut is awesome!
My botticelli curls just received a DevaCut fix from another salon after a "DevaCut" from Darcy. My curls were cut dry, but not curl by curl. They were stretched out with a comb while being cut. They were never assessed individually but rather grabbed in clumps and chopped. I asked when they would be cut curl by curl and was told that would happen after my hair was washed. Product was applied correctly per the DevaCurl method but not cut per the DevaCurl method. My hair ended up with holes/gaps on the sides which will take a few more months of growing out before they can be repaired. If it's the true DevaCut you're looking for, I would suggest any other stylist for your delicate curls.
I went to get the DevaCut by Darcy and she did an amazing job! I have fairly long and very thick hair with some heat and relaxer damage and she was able to make my hair feel lighter and a lot more moisturized. She answered all of my questions and gave me helpful tips, and now I feel much more confident with my natural curls.
I learned new ways to treat my hair, what products not to use. My hair is soft and bouncy. I received a devacut and purchased devacurl products. Having a stylist that is all about curls is truly amazing. I am glad I was close by. Jessica is amazing, first time I walked out of a salon with my curls and not having it blown out. I recommand a devacut and Jessica. See you in April!! #teamnatural
Jessica was my deva cut stylist and she did an AMAZING job explaining the products to me as she took me through the steps on how to care for my hair at home to maintain growth, health, and consistency. She was VERY patient and quick (almost too quick that she had to reassure me that she was not "short changing" my "deva" experience. She was thorough and very interested in my past experiences in salons (being an AA curly girl). Very kind and pleasant. Just a few minor things I did wish were different is that I specifically asked to have a nice shape while maintain my hair length, which was almost to my mid back (stretched); now my hair is shoulder length. I was not happy about that and I had a lot of convincing to do when I made it home for my hubby to see. The test was straightening my hair to see how it would fall and while it has many layers and body, I NEVER wanted to trade the integrity of my length for a particular cut. I did let her know that I straighten my hair at times. She also invited me to return if I noticed a few stragglies(which I did, but was too afraid of more hair being cut so I'm dealing with it). I am not sure if the products worked best for my hair texture since after an hour I had a complete Afro (lol). However, I was happy with the results when Jessica was done; so much so that I asked her if she could give my daughter her first and she very nicely said she would even though they were closing. My daughter was thrilled with being a "deva"!! Bottom line, I would recommend Jessica and I plan to keep my appointment that's about 6-7 weeks out. I'll just double-reiterate not to compromise my length so greatly. Thank you Jessica and all said, WE WILL DEF RETURN!!!
Jessica is awesome with my naturally curly hair. She is very knowledgeable and helpful with curly hair. I also love the base color and partial highlights she gave me! I'm so glad I found Jessica. I even traveled a little over 2 hrs for my appt with her. Well worth the drive!!!
Jessica listened and gave me an amazing cut. She charges less than other Deva Stylists I've been to...only $45! She's quick and knowledgeable and very eager to help you understand your curls and how to style them.
For twenty years I've struggled with my curly hair, which is ultimately now awkwardly wavy. Within those twenty years I've gone to countless hair stylists and each and every time I have absolutely hated my hair for the first few weeks. Since going to jessica, I have never once questioned whether or not I like my new haircut, in fact, I always absolutely love it. Jessica knows curly hair and I completely trust my hair in her hands-- and I'm VERY high maintenance and picky about my hair. She knows curly hair and she knows what she's doing, my hair has never looked better or made me feel as confident as I do now since going to Jessica
Jessica at Shampoo literally changed my life with a new super-easy style and great new highlights. I can go camping, ride in the MG with the top down, or walk in the rain knowing that my hair is still going to look great. I love trips to this salon, knowing that I am going to look my best when I leave. And all my friends love my new look!
