Upon arrival, Kara was extremely warm and greeted me with a hug. I felt like we already knew each other! Her space is super cozy and eclectic with a modern vibe. We started with Kara asking me about my current hair goals, how much length I wanted to keep and a little bit of hair history. She then made personalized suggestions on how she felt she could define the shape of my curly mop of hair. I was all in! As soon as she started shaping it, I immediately noticed a difference in the way my hair framed my face and how the overall shape complimented my features. I loved it already! Next up was my shampoo and conditioning lesson, followed by how to apply product in my hair and which products were best suited for my texture. Super informative! My absolute favorite part! She popped me under the dryer and then styled me to perfection. I looked immediately refreshed, refined and my curls looked so alive! I’ve been following her advice and techniques since then and I’ve been getting compliments left and right! Kara knows exactly what she is doing with curly hair and you can immediately see how much she loves her craft! 10/10 would recommend to all my curly hair friends!

Kara just gets it. She gave me the exact haircut I was looking for, and even suggested some bangs! I took her advice and I’m glad I did. The cut is great. So many times I have gotten away from Deva cuts because I thought they were simply not worth the money. Turns out I was just going to the wrong stylist. I have 3A/3B biracial curls that have a mind of their own. I wanted volume over length, and Kara delivered. She cuts your hair in a way that looks good over time as well. It grows out without losing its shape.

I booked the DevaCurl experience and it was my first time getting a DevaCut. I have very fine curly hair (and I think my curl size is 3A). Kara respected my wishes to keep my length and also suggested a cut that framed my face really well. She involved me in the decision process the whole time but I was happy to follow her suggestions and give her some artistic freedom with my hair. I'm glad I did - my hair looks great and I've already received several compliments! We went through the styling instructions fairly fast, but I was able to ask questions the whole time and learned a lot. I like that they don't force you to use DevaCurl products - there are several options you can choose from which include the full DevaCurl line but also a line that's more eco-friendly / better for my very very sensitive skin. Also, there are a few things pointed out in other reviews that should be updated. 1. You can pay with Venmo now - so it's not just cash or check. 2. You receive clips and sample DevaCurl products or 12 dollars towards a different product line - it's true that I didn't receive a microfiber towel but I think the haircut, discounted products, and clips were more than worth what I paid. The first time you come in it's a bit expensive, but, after your first visit, it's $95-120 (depending on how much time it takes to cut, wash, and style your hair) which is a pretty normal price for a high-quality hair cut in California.
